LoArmistead Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Well, I don't know if there is a "minimum age" for a credit card, though Im guessing that if there was on, it would be 18. Since you're 17, I wouldn't get into credit cards so young if I were you. Unless you are very very responsible, it's a very very bad idea to get a credit card at a young age. It's best to just have the money in your bank account when you get gas and stuff.
Byron Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 I believe its 18, ive got a debit to my checking acct and thats good enough for me, but ask your parents about it, if not, wait until your 18 and get one, it will be good for your credit. Mangar Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 (edited) I believe 18 is correct for the USA, don't know in other countries. Be careful though, you can end up spending twice what you buy it at (with the intrest) and you can get your self in trouble for future plans if you create a "bad credit" rating. poligoon Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 I have to agree with LoArmistead, I got one when I was 18, thought "Oh ya ill be good with it" PHHHH That lasted about 3 weeks haha, and now 3 years later Im still screwed cause of it. I got laid off from my good paying job like 6 weeks after getting it and had racked up quite the bill. Now i cant even get a 3000 loan. If you get one at a younf age BE CAREFUL!! It can really mess things up for you in the long run.
Nerm Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 I recommend not getting a credit card. They are the devil lol. My opinion is if you can't pay cash then you don't need it, this excludes things that require loans such as houses, cars, etc.
sykocus Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Just go to a credit card's website and fill out an application. if you get rejected for your age you know. in fact it probably will say in the Terms if you have to be 18. Since being a minor you can't legally enter a contract on your own. I don't think any company will give you one w/o a cosigner. Mom had to cosign on it though. I think I was just 18 at the time.

d3bruts1d Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Let me give you one very important piece of advice here. Stay as frakking far away from credit cards as you can. I would suggest opening a bank (checking) account and getting an ATM/Debit/Check card. They can be used just about anyplace a credit card can, but they won't allow you to spend more money that what you have.
