I was going to rebuild a computer for a friend of my wife. nothing major, just replace the parts and charge her MY price for the parts and no labor... a nice thing friends can do for each other. now her husband decides to get involved. we start with a gateway PIII 600. the hard drive is about all we're going to keep, since the rest is propriatary crud. we get a basic chenbro case with 420w enlite powersuply. nice looking but not chinsy or gaudy either. we move to the gigabyte K8NS, Sempron 3100+, 512mb generic pc3200, new 200gb main drive, 256mb radeon 9550 dvd burner, and dvdrom cost comes out to less than $350 now her husband thinks I should give him (note the word GIVE), "a top of the line" athlon 64 processor, at least 2gb of ram, and an x800 series video card for that kind of money. and that's what his IT guy told him at work. now he also works in the berkely school system, where my wife worked too... and I was at one time network admin for a short time, and started my IT career there as the "hardware specialist"... the new guys are idiots. his wife is THRILLED with this new setup, she can do everything SHE needs to do and more. she's been using it for a week now. he's insistant that I NEED to give him the things he asked for on the budget his wife set. and he has the nerve to go over to my house while I'm out in colorado and snarl at my wife and wake both the kids up this evening. and this is the assclown that even posted here for a little bit and had me work on his personal system. now he thinks someone OWES him this... Thats what sucks about mass idiots, no matter how you try and help them, they will always think theyre smarter then you, deserve more, and stuff like that. >.< Well i hope (for his safety too ) that he will change his views (unlikely), or maybe you could just get one of those restraining order thingies ( you know the paper that makes him stay away from you ^_^). Even though I ordered everything in front of my so called friend, he went around our subdivision telling people I ripped him off. Needless to say I sent all the . back when I got it. swifty11212 Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 make a chart how much such a system the AZZ want and see how stupid he feels about trying to get a system he CANT afford for dirt cheap... all in all, a system like that would cost about 1.2k the minimum (maybe more or less). its not good to tell a person how to do a job that you cant do yourself.
