Well my brother needs a comp for his U

and well he wants a INTEL one....

SO i built one with

intel mobo

p4 3.2 600 series

6600 GT

1 gig of pc2 4300

17inch LCD

and a dual layer DVD burner

all that for 1340

But he built a 8400 on dell with the same stuff exept that the dell has 2x512 ram sticks and a 6800

for the same price....

and he also has a 12% discount on dell..

so should he get the dell for about 200 bucks less

or the custom built

The reason the dell is cheap is because it has cheap parts. DELLS SUCK OK! lol sorry had to let that out after reading your post. All pre-built's suck. They are made with cheap crappy parts which is why you can buy them so cheap. I have long learned to go by the old saying "You get what you pay for" so if he wants a cheapo computer at a cheapo price then go ahead and get him a dell that he will regret for as long as he has it. or he can get the custom built with good parts and enjoy it. BTW where did you get your pricing for the custom built one?

My opinion if you want to future upgrade (ie new mobo diff socket) you'd go with a custom. Its the smarter thing to do. The dell wont exactly be upgradable.

Dell, compaq, HP's are a user PC, you have to know that 90% of the PC users out there are just that... PC users. And for the majority of all those peoples who will never open a side pannel and respect all the little stickers, one of those PC will do just fine, they'll happyly go to the pc store when it's broken or has any kind of problems etc.

But for the 10% that's left (us) those are unthinkable when it comes to buying.

Point is if your brother dosn't intend to even look inside , a cheaper dell will do just fine, it's a matter of knowledge ;)

Think about it.

Custume computer- Prebuilt standardized computer

Custume Vehicle- Mass Manufactured Standardized Vehicals

Yes I know making a custome car would prolly cost more in comparison, but still you get exactly what you want. When you build itm, it is yours, you know more info and you prolly payed less for what the same prebuilt woulda cost. and Common YOU BUILT IT, thats freaking awesome.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I will never get or recomend a prebuilt unless the person im talking to is real dumb, ever again.

Please don't buy a dell.

You'll start having problems with it from day1.

There is no gratification in just buying something prebuilt.

Building and upgrading your system makes it a part of you,

something that you did. You will learn and know more about

what you have and have much more pride rather than just

buying something done for you.

That is what separates the hobbist from just a user.

I have seen problems with more Dells just recently but mainly

in the Laptops and Monitors.

It seems like they (all Dells) are getting cheaper and cheaper built

(chick-a-dee-china) --thus the lower price. :foldon:
