Car Audio

I have some cash saved for a whole set of car speakers/head unit/subs/amp and I was looking at what to buy, it inspired me to ask what some of you guys have in your rides? I was thinking along the lines of 1 or 2 12" subs, a good amp, mid range head unit and some mid range co-ax speakers. I dont know what brand I should get yet, all I know is I want low and loud bass and pretty clear sound, not the best but definately a decent system.

Is anyone experienced with car audio and has any suggestions?

Post your setups :D

I have a factory dodge ram infininty head unit, with pioneer 6x9's in the doors and pioneer 5 1/4's for back speakers. I also have a 650W Kenwood amp powering a 10" Kicker Comp VR Sub, in a ported downfiring Probox.

for bass i have 2 pioneer premier dvd running 1000x2 rms on a clarion amp, its turned all the way down and is way too much. spend $4-600 get a decent 800 watt sub and a fosgate or kicker (if you want to spend more) amp.

I love MTX subs. They can really punch, especially in a sealed box. I also have a kicker amp wich is really nice. For car speakers, i like both Pioneer and Frosgate. Also, i love my Pioneer headunit. I even have a couple friends who have pioneer headunits and none of us have ever had any problems. I've had bad experiences w/ Aiwa but that may just be me. Oh and if you get a wiring kit for your amp, don't get one of those $50 kits from like circuit city cuz they're a rip off. Fact is, wire is wire. I got my kit from Walmart for $25. Runs my amp great. Also, make sure you have an inline fuse in the power line to make sure u protect ur amp. Ur amp will also have fuses but whatever, you can never have too much protection ;)

I have a Alpine CDA-9807.

Infinity Kappa Series 6 1/2 inch front and rear speakers.

and a MTX 5500 series 10" sub powered by a Power Acoustik 980 Watt Amp.

ok people dont hate me for this but, the best thing you can do is not buy speakers and subs from places like Best Buy and Circuit City, and places like that. Go to a car toys or some other car store. best buy and Circuit City both sell the lower end speakers from the companys. Unless your on a budget, then its understandable. Now im not saying the stuff there is total crap which its not its just not the higher end stuff. ;)

In my 98 Escort I have a JVC SH909 Deck that does MP3s and the whole shibang, in the front doors I have Infinity Perfect 5 1/4" components, in the back deck I've got Infinity Perfect 5 1/4" comonents again in a custom plate. In the trunk I've got a Infinity Perfect 12" sub in a sealed box.

Powering the speakers, I've got a Planet Audio 4 channel 50x4 RMS amp. And powering the Sub, a Phoenix Gold XS2300 2 channel amp bridged into 1 channel. Its not the loudest one on the block in terms of SPL, but it sure sounds good and I can crank it up without distortion.
