Vasto Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 The original photo was at a Stock site. That means you can use it in non-profit things for free. If you use it in a mag cover, you need permission. If you use it in a devPrint you need permission.
JakSmit Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Hello, Thanks very much for helping me out. I am the person who has asked to use the pic. What I am trying to do is take these elements frem the devart pic: glowing blue eyes, blue glow on the rest of the body and lastly the very vibrant white wiskers. I am not going to do what they have done and make the cat contrasting light on its face and dark the rest of it. So far I have changed the colour of the eyes and the nose, by duplicating the layer, selecting the two eyes and nose, inverting the selection and deleting the selection. I then inverted the selection again so I have the eyes and nose selected and then used the colour replacement tool to make them blue. Once I had done that I applied an outer glow of the same colour and set the blending mode to colour. Sounds complex, but its not, I am not a brilliant designer, I am better at flash as you'l probably see from my website which is currently being redesigned. Here is what I have come up with so far: If any of you know how I would do those wiskers vibrant white then it would be a great help. I hope to have the wiskers really white and the background really dark. Thanks!

No, i set the picture up as to ask permission for all use. you can set the level of rights - JakSmit kindly asked my permission, be it commercial or not as commercial work can be non-profit too. JakSmit, that looks awesome - i like it a lot. Ledlorian, so long as you give credit where it is due, feel free to use the picture for your site. JakSmit Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Ok, I have messed around with the colour, contrast and levels a bit and started work on dodging the wiskers to make them glow: I don't know why I said snow cat as I don't want it to look like it is in the snow, I guess its just because its winter... Leldorion Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 The whiskers are a little out of focus as far as the pic goes and a good deal of contrast is needed in order to get them to look like the ones in the deviant art pic. JakSmit Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 how would I go about increasing the contrast? Make the background darker?

JakSmit Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Thanks very much for taking the time to put something together. Would you mind explaining the different techniques that you used in order to create it? I am guessing that you used colour dodging on the eyes, but I am not sure about what you did with the fur. Thanks.
