~PAQ5009SR Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 I have a barton2600+ and I want to safely remove the thermal paste that got gooped on so I can apply artic silver for cooler temps (also lapping hs), the problem is that some of the paste got smudged out of the core when I put the heatsink on before what could I use to get the majority of that goop off so it can be ready for as5? Whitelightning Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Use a Q-tip and some alcohol(Any drug store has it)....I use 70% or greater.... dip the Q-Tip in the alcohol and take the goop off...Then put the as5 on it...Make sure you get it all off...depending on how much is on there it may take a bit... Fanatic Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Goof off, Isopropyl alcohol (pure as possible), some break parts cleaner....etc... If you have any more doubts there is a thread in here somewhere with a better description. I will see if I can find it for you. Nemo Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Nail polish remover is a no no- it's got oils in it. Acetone by itself is ok.
