Cyberbeer Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 I have seen ppl mention Vdimm mods to raise the voltage to thier RAM. I believe my Asus board only goes upto 2.8 or 2.9. What is the reason for doing this mod? Are thier alternatives to it? Like modded BIOS? Is it easy to perform?
Nuclear Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 What is the reason for doing this mod Quite Simply...to allow more vdimm than the BIOS will allow. Some RAM needs more than 2.8v to really get going, mostly just BH-5. If you run a divider or you're not wanting to seriously OC your RAM, then you may not wanna do it. Are thier alternatives to it? Like modded BIOS? Nope. There isn't a BIOS mod that can be done to allow more voltage. The only way is by doing a vdimm mod Is it easy to perform? That depends on you and your skill level. ASUS boards are the easiest to modify, but you still need a steady hand and good knowledge of where things are located on your board. Mangar Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 And if you do this, have some crap ram on hand to test with. You don't want to take chance of frying a good set of sticks if you did something wrong.
Cyberbeer Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 I hear ya. When I upgrade my RAM from the mistake I bought in my sig I'll use the PC3000. I am still D'OHin over that buy lol.
Mangar Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 I even use crap ram at first when changing M/boards.
kirky_D Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Nope. There isn't a BIOS mod that can be done to allow more voltage. The only way is by doing a vdimm mod that isn't true. i got an uber bios and it lets me put the vdimm up to 2.9V. normally it only lets you put 2.8V through your ram.
