Maybe with forced induction it would help more, seeing as you are trying to shove as much air and fuel into that thing is possible. Waco Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 New flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate installed! The flywheel is a lightweight version of the 1.8L style (I have the 1.6L) but they're interchangable. The clutch is a 6-puck sprung with copper/something pucks. Pressure plate is heavier than stock, but still lighter than most cars. The combo will hold ~320 torque. I'm happy! Having a real cherry picker makes this a hell of a lot easier. Still not super easy, aligning the transmission input shaft is never fun. This is an annoying tight space. Look at that nice shiny oil drain bung for the turbo. Mmmm...boost. And all in! New brake reservoir grommets went in at the same time to FINALLY stop the tiny little leak that was eating the new black paint. The new fuel injectors (67 lb/hour up from 22 lb/hour stock) were installed at this point too. OMGOMGOMGOMG. It fit, with a little persuasion. Doesn't it look cozy? NOMS. You can make out the notched frame rail on the right here by the compressor housing. Power by Flyin' Miata, easily the best performance shop I've ever dealt with in terms of customer support before AND after purchase. More soon...I'm going to *maybe* get the rest of the plumbing done tomorrow. It probably won't fire up till next weekend, then on to tuning! The wastegate is set at 6 PSI give or take, I'm going to start at that and add in the boost control solenoid once it's all nice and smooth at 6 PSI. Most tech colleges in my area would practically pay you to have a crack at tuning that tiny beast, with you present to supervise of course. Waco Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Chopped this stupid valve up since it makes adjusting idle annoying. My computer can auto-tune the idle using the IAC, this damn little wax valve mucked with that. All piping to it gone...because race car. Someday I'll grab the right bolts for it and make a blockoff plate rather than a gasket smothered in sealant. Intercooler in - the trimming of the radiator shroud wasn't too bad thanks to Mr. Dremel. This sucked. The turbo outlet, coolant outlet, water lines, and oil drain all wanted to occupy the same space. Nothing is touching now. The previously cavernous bay is starting to feel cramped. Radiator is back in now too. Mmm...welded aluminum. The intercooler piping is all silicone so it's super easy to install. This is what I had to trim to make things fit nicely.
