Scott P Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I'm tuning up my current rig to extend its useful life and an SSD is on the list. I've noticed that several vendors have been dropping the price on the 840 Pro SSD models over the past couple of days. Best Buy did it a few days ago, Adorama did it through their ebay store within the past week and today Newegg listed them at $171 for the 256 GB model. Is there a new model coming to cause all of these retailers to dump these great SSDs? I had a 256 GB 840 Pro, a WD Blue 1 TB hard drive and 8 GB of Mushkin Blackline in my cart at Newegg, but the SSD sold out before I finished shopping. I'd like to get an order done so I can get my machine running fast again.
ivangela Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Good question. I just picked up a 840 EVO 120GB for 90 bucks. I thought that was pretty good. It'll update the HTPC in sig, which looks similar to your rig actually

cjloki Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 i thot it was the sammy 840 pro that is the king shizzle, so if that's so, then i can see the prices of lower end items dropping some...

Scott P Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Is there really a difference in the TLC vs. MLC for SSD type? That debate always seems to pop up when the 840 and 840 Pro get mentioned.
