Black64 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 So I am ready to upgrade my GPU setup to something with a little more juice. I have right now Gigabyte 6950 (Main monitor, for gaming) XFX 6570 (2 secondary monitors, for web, watching movies, etc) What I want is the ability to go up to 5 monitors, which I will be getting soon. But I still will only be gaming on 1, (no eyefiniti yet) I do not want to CF or SLI. So should get a 670GTX and a 8800GTS? Or A HD 7970 and keep the XFX 6570? Also can I run 5 monitors of these card choices? Can I use the 670 with the 6570?
vandreadstriker Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It should work as long as you have 5 display outputs but I don't think it'd work if you mix AMD & NVIDIA.. CMIIW. If you're going to game on 1 monitor, I'd suggest waiting for 660Ti.. 670 would be an overkill for 1920x1080 right now but the 660Ti should be just nice (according to leaked reviws). Muchoman1 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 You can go a 670 and use your 6570 for extra monitors, just install both sets of drivers. make sure to have your gaming displays on the 670 though

You never know when a GPU could die and you need a powerful replacement to keep on gaming

Black64 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Hmmm, Still don't know what to do, but if I go to the green team I will sell both cards any way. But I have always want to try phyics X. Right now I can get a 670 for less then 400 and a 7970 for about 400. If the 670 is better then the 7970 then that's the way to go. Are the drivers better on the green team? Well, on my own rig i have ran 4 screens with each of the following 2x6970 2x7770 1x6990 2x580 2x680 And i must say, the drivers are much nicer on the green team. The whole process is much easier and flows better. I would go 670 over 7970, i have tried many AMD cards, (about 5 other cards not with 3 screens, plus the 3 combos with 3 screens) and i find i prefer my 580 and 680s over any of them

El_Capitan Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) A GTX 670 over a HD 7970? For pure power, I'd take the HD 7970. An overclocked HD 7970 is still faster than even an overclocked GTX 680 at the highest settings, unless the game can utilize FXAA or CSAA instead of MSAA for anti-aliasing. You can't go wrong with either one, though. Edited August 3, 2012 by El_Capitan

Waco Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I'd take the 670 too if you aren't running multiple monitors for gaming.
