Phenom II Unlocked core performance

Ok I have a quick, hopefully simple question.

 

If you take a Phenom II 555 for example, and it unlocks to a quad and is stablest all stock settings, would it perform the same as a phenom II 955? Or would the extra cores not perform as well since they were unlocked?

 

I know this would probably vary from chip to chip but I was just wanting a general idea.

I'm running a p2 550 unlocked 24/7 to 3.6 and it will match bench marks with pretty well any 955 if both are clocked to the same mhz. Only difference is the 955 would oc higher than I could get my 550 to.Probably because the 955 is a higher watt cpu. The 555 is a 955 with the core locked. They locked it due to the chip not performing up to 955 standards. Sometimes a good one gets through the cracks.

@OP: it will depend on your luck.

Drdeath already explained the reason behind the locked core in 555, and why it is unlocked in 955.

yes they are the same chip - 2 cores but if there was a demaned for the 550 x2 then amd just shuts 2 cores off the 955 and push them as dual core and my guess don't quote me but more then half unlock. as it might have just need to much vcore to run as 955 as well or amd was just nice hahahahh we wish if they were nice bd would not have be so sh=tie( i only use AMD so don't call me a Intel fan boy) but half can be blamed on windows

Ok thanks for answering the question, I was thinking about buying one from a friend that I know will unlock, I just didn't know if there were any differences on the chips or if amd just locked the cores.
