NikoDG Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I'd assume that the heatsink is sitting unevenly before I'd go so far as to say his CPU is failing
Waco Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Otherwise it sounds like your CPU could be going bad. Nothing about what he's posted suggests his CPU is going bad! He probably just needs to remount his heatsink.
Hyper Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I'd suspect a faulty sensor. though I could be related to uneven TIM or mounting.
d3athsd00r Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I don't have any instability issues. I'm going to run Prime95 for a few hours today and see what happens. But if I have time I may attempt lapping the cooler soon.
Kingfisher Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I used to have that same chip and had similar wierdness, one core runs hotter than the rest. I honestly wouldnt be concerned.
d6bmg Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 ^^ the temperature difference generally stays inside 3-8, max 10C, but never goes beyond that and which s happening in this case.
xchrissypoox Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) lol. The credit card method is worst way to apply Thermalpaste. A dot in the center the size of a small pea rdmains the best. Make sure you have enough torque with the heatsink to the mobo. Not if he's have trouble getting even contact, you over estimate the difference in efficiency between the two methods. To OP again: Reseat the CPU, if that doesn't work you can probably buy an after market mounting bracket and it will probably solve your problems. Waco Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 It could easily be a lack of TIM. I actually screwed this up just the other day - I put on TOO thin of a layer and because the heatsink I was using wasn't totally flat one of the cores was 17 C higher than the rest...
