Stonerboy779 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Where I am considering buying http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv6-6145tx-15-notebook/656617 More info from hp http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02921673&cc=ad&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_auen Also does anyone know if it supports dual 2.5" HDDs. I know some of the dv6 used to but have they continued this. Otherwise I will probably look at another sat pro from toshiba.
Black64 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Well it an HP so -1 there . But it seems to have good specs, only that it has 4gb of ram. laptops at that price range normally have 6-8gb.
Fogel Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) I tried looking up the dual HDD support. I did not see anything. I did not find a version of this laptop with two HDDs in raid-0, so I would guess it does not since most of these laptop manufacturers tend to do raid in order to beef up the HDD space to make their laptop stand out more. I am guessing this laptop is primarily for homework and such? Seems kinda overpriced for the specs, but I also can't figure out Aussie prices. Stonerboy779 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Alright Aussie prices are generally 150% on American laptops so comparatively this is very underpriced here. And for a 6770m that's damn good to get it under 800 here, which unfortunate. I may go with the sat pro from toshiba with a gt540m would get better battery life and I know it can take the second HDD or in my case it will be SSD unfortunately it will cost quite a bit more. Aim is for a laptop around $800 with dual HDD support and at least a 540m or a 6750m
DanTheGamer11 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 That's so cheap! Even compared to europe Dual HDD tends to mean no ODD? IT is 15 inch after all... I think if you buy it of HP you get 4GB ram for free? Contact em?
potatochobit Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 if it is a 15" screen most likely it has 1 hard drive bay but it doesnt matter because you can get one of theseand an external DVD drive

I know there have been some dv6 that have been and I am in the process of finding out from someone if it does, fingers crossed. Fogal you should check out ivithos' efficient laptop thread and the beast he settled with. Think you may like it yourself.

I hope that it does have 2 bays for your sake( very unlikely..), I got a samsung slim external drive, it's not that bad... Could always use Alcohol 120% to make disc images and use that MagicIso to use em...
IVIYTH0S Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Wow even if those were USD that'd be a stellar deal!! I see no reason not to buy that!
Fogel Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Fogal you should check out ivithos' efficient laptop thread and the beast he settled with. Think you may like it yourself. I did - he got a REALLY great laptop for the price! Buuut... since you can't change up the graphics card in a laptop that changes things drastically. When I tried spec'ing out those laptops to a comparable ASUS laptop that has the parts I want the ASUS actually came up a couple hundred cheaper and was still ahead on parts. So I'm like ...Eh! WTF! So right now it is looking like ASUS wins for best price to performance ...if the goal is a gaming laptop. And that is not even considering it has better inate cooling than all the other laptops. The biggest problem with the ASUS laptops - bricks, they are the biggest and heaviest concrete filled in cinder block you can find on the market ...well aside from maybe the overpriced alienwares - they're huge too! So I am gonna have to make sacrifices: - Spend more than a grand to get a gaming laptop - Realize I'm lugging around a big heavy beast OR - Sacrifice gaming quality to get a smaller form factor cheaper laptop - Realize it won't last as long with "current games" as the choice above And wow - you aren't kidding I tried looking at that list of laptops at that site ...and damn, I think you picked the best one but the site is so slow here I didn't get thru the whole list. With those prices you picked good - just looks like you need to find one with dual HDD support (also one of the things I require). Here are some other sites if you can be bothered. http://www.mln.com.au/ http://www.pccasegear.com/ http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Home http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/default.php http://dicksmith.com.au/dsau/home.jsp?gclid=CI-Smv6e4qwCFUdNpgodLAkZoA http://www.harveynorman.com.au/ As you can see selection sucks and prices are worse with Asus probably being the worse priced over all for price v performance and hp from jbhifi being the best priced. msi from pccg decent but no range.
