MisFiT_ Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=20805307 Hello, I am building a new 800$ gaming rig. My main concerns about the list is the nvidia 460 video card. Should I change the video card or anything? Suggestions/comments about anything? Thank you
Darth_Tom Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I would get a much better motherboard. I guess you don't want to overclock, since you didn't get the 2500K? If you did want to, the H-- chipset would be a terrible choice. My main issue with the board is that it's Micro-Atx, and only has 2 RAM slots. LuckyDeath Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Everything looks good to me. I can personally speak about the PC-K58 case, I just build a rig with the PC-K59 and it was awesome. Heavy duty (emphasis on the heavy), but it will last for years without a doubt. Top notch. I can also recommend the WD Caviar Blue drive... I use a 500GB version of this drive for OS backups and such, and I don't have any complaints. I've also used the ModXStream PSU's before, and so far no problems (also, its a great modular unit for a good price). The GTX 460 should only be changed if it can't deliver the performance you want. It will play any game out there today, but perhaps not the most demanding on highest graphics at 1920x1080 resolution. What games are you looking to play (and what resolutions/details)? EDIT: Maybe look into an H67 motherboard over an H61. Edited July 18, 2011 by LuckyDeath
MisFiT_ Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Thank you for replying! I don't want to spend extra money on features I don't need. The motherboard I chose has all the features I need.
technodanvan Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I would think a lesser power supply would more than suffice for that build. 500 watts would almost certainly be fine, 600 would be more than enough. Other than that, I can't really see anything that would benefit a rig that won't be clocked.
Stonerboy779 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Try one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256064 if you wanted a modular supply one of the most stable PSU's for price techdanvan is right PSU is a little overkill atm but if you don't need modular you may very well be happy with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256061
jdm_freek Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) you can get a gtx 560 ti from evga for $179.99 Edited July 19, 2011 by jdm_freek
Rofltroll Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) My 2 cents: Awesome choice for everything there but I must advise you to look into a non-stock CPU cooling solution: The Titan Fenrir is a great bang for buck cooler from all I've read about it in reviews. Cheap and efficient and i think it would fit into the case you chose as well. Even if you don't want to overclock a hot summer day might prove strenuos on a CPU cooled by a stock heat sink. Newegg seems to be out of stock though. Edit: Also that HDD is the exact same model I use and I keep having trouble with it, although to be honest i wreck HDDs like there's no tomorrow. Edit#2: Here's another bang for buck cooler : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 but i suggest you try and find the Titan Fenrir somewhere. IVIYTH0S Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 GPU: Get this one, that 460's price is way out of line: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500202 PSU: This 750W is the same price after MIR and better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703027 HDD: Did no one else notice that you can get the 500GB version of the Blue for the same price : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769 RAM: Mushkin RAM rocks and $24 for this set is amazing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146740
LuckyDeath Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) that 460's price is way out of line His GTX 460 is priced at $8 more than the one you linked... It also comes with factory OC'd memory clock, shader clock, and core clocks... How is that 'way out of line?' Edit: Saw the MIR's... still, its a $20 difference. Hardly outrageous for a factory OC'd card from EVGA. Also, G.Skill RAM is fine. I've used the Enhanced Silverline and the Ripjaws in builds, both have done fine. Go with the one you like the looks/cost of the most. The PSU IVI recommended (the 750w PC P&C Silencer) is a solid PSU (I use it myself). However, keep in mind it is not modular like the ModXStream is... with the GTX 460 you don't need the extra power or efficiency, so choose based on what features you'd rather have (cleaner case with modular CPU or more room for upgrade with the non-modular). Yeah but he could easily match and exceed those "factory overclocks" and yeah I meant after MIR he could always get this 460 for $110: http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.asp?switch=20 Yeah either ram would work, that Mushkin is just the cheapest and usually Mushkin gives you more than what they advertise!! I guess he could go with a 500W too but I didn't know if he'd want to SLI down the road (which I doubt his board supports anyway)
