Saltcracker Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Hey, I just bought a HD5970 yesterday (YES!!!!!) and i was wondering if anyone knew or had the link to a good over clocking guide for this card on the stock cooler. Much Appreciated Salt
IVIYTH0S Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Are you a pro a moving sliders by chance?? nah seriously, it's that easy. Get a program called MSI Afterburner, and one called MSI Kombuster. You'll want to open Kombuster in Multi-GPU DX11. Set it's mode at the top from OpenGL to DX11. Now set the resolution to your screen's max resolution, set the AA to the max you can do. now in AfterBurner increase your core clock by 50mhz and click apply, run Kombuster for about 60 seconds. Then if it runs fine do this again (increase 50mhz, run test), and again until graphical distortions appear or your driver crashes. If it does reach this point, crank back the core clock in 10mhz increments until it stops happening. You've reached your max core clock! Now do the the same for the memory clock, 50mhz increments then testing, until errors appear than crank back slow until they stop. Now that you've got a REASONABLY stable overclock, go play a couple diverse games (that are graphically intensive in their own different ways), if you can play them for multiple hours than you have a stable overclock. Many people will say that the most graphically intense games will bring out the instabilities but I actually had an unstable overclock playing a RTS so try every game you can before settling. If you have errors just back your OC 5mhz from your core, than if it fails again, remove 5 mhz from your memory until it and keep going back and forth until it stabilizes If you feel brave (or just can't stop OC'n now) you can up your card's voltage to get higher clock speeds yet (but watch your temps!) I'll have a new 5970 soon so I'll be able to help ya even more personally then Goodluck!
Black64 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Problem: I need to overclock my ATI GPU. What do I do? Solution: Go into CCC and use AMD overdrive. That was easy! Edited March 26, 2011 by Black6464
