Cooler Master Hyper 212+

I've decided to look into getting an after market CPU cooler to do some mild over clocking (I think I've hit 3.4 stable w/o upping the voltage), and I'm liking the Hyper212+. With a giftcard I have for Amazon, I can get one for roughly $7, which is not shabby at all. The only problem is, is that I would have to take off my 200mm side fan to get the clearance for it. However, I don't know how much cooling that thing is doing anyways, my GTX460 is running at 65 degrees under full load, even with it's crazy cooler, and the fan right next to it running full bore. (to be fair, there is only about 1 1/2 inches between the cooler and psu.) Any thoughts?

To summarize:

Is it worth it to grab a CPU cooler, but not be able to run the side fan?

I would say so. With that CPU you can expect to run your Proc at 3.8-4.0GHz. Give or take. I need to reapply the termal paste on mine as I botched it the first time but didn't have the motivation to do it over lol. The one on my girl friend pc keeps her 3.5GHz from ever going over 40c, I don't even think the fan runs at full for these temps. Mine however is a bit more toasty.

I have bought two and they are actually pretty easy to get together though if you read reviews on amazon most people make it sound as if they had to split the atom to get it working :dunno: They can be kinda noisy too but nothing that would keep me from buying it.

I don't think there is a better option for cooling the 1156 socket at this price. The CCF is good but just wont fit on the 1156.

got i5 760 with hyper 212+ on 3.8 ghz with 1.32 voltage and i never go beyong 59 degree's. 20% sound in the bios for 40 degree or less and you almost dont hear him and then idle it is around 35 degree's.

ot a bad cooler at all and i do have another side fan but it is on the lower part of the case (tho it should not be a problem for you it wont change that much in temps)

+1 for the cm 212+. I have two of these. One is on a x2 555 unlocked to a quad (single fan) and another on a x2 555 @ 4.18ghz (2 fans push/pull) that maxed at about 37°C after 24 hours of prime95.

Looks like I'll be grabbing one of these this friday when I get paid :) I mean, for $6.75 with free shipping, I can't pass it up! (Technically $16.75, I got a $20 amazon gift card for $10, and I have a prime student membership :) )

EDIT: After reading Compxpert's review, I think I should grab another fan as well, to put it in a push pull config. Not sure how much difference this will make, but, again, for the price, you can't beat it lol.

Its a great cooler, you will be happy! Packs a big bang for your buck, esp in your siutation!

P.S. I love my free Amazon Prime membership for being a student. I figure if I stay in school for the rest of my life, I get free 2 day shipping on Amazon, plus I never have to pay my loans back ;)

Good enough to cool any overclocked Phenom II CPU (even the 1090T). For the price, it's great! The only problem is that it's tall, so make sure your case is wide enough.

I never used the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ on an Intel CPU, though.
