How noisy is 45 dBA ?

Recommended Posts

I am considering picking up 4 Scythe Kaze case fans soon to replace the Thermaltake case fans I have. The Scythe fans would push 133 CFM and put out 45dBA of noise while the fans I have push 60 CFM and put out 16 dBA each. I am just wondering if there will be a huge difference in noise. I know it will be louder but I find the dBA hard to judge on paper.

45 dBA IMO would drive you nuts after awhile and I reckon as you are asking already, you will be listening out for it if you got those fans, which could be a detrimental mind set to be in.

Not a perfect answer, but this is an interesting overview on noise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_from_noise The Silent PC website does regular testing and recording of fan noises too, maybe worth having a poke around on there? http://www.silentpcreview.com/

But you may like noise, so 45 dBA could be a good thing?

That would sound like running a vacuum in your space all the time. Its loud!

with an ultra kaze in and an ultra kaze out there's some noise in here but its not like a vacuum running, it's not that serios, not even. @133cfm you're gonna have some noise but the tradeoff is cooling. if you put an ultra kaze in the exhaust position and keep the puter low close to the floor you'll be cool...

kwik edit: i don't even notice em anymore but my setup is cabineted so most of it is muffled underneath me. i hear the radiator cooling fan as much or more but they're still very tolerable. that little wave applet above^^ is louder than my ultrakazes...i'm a friend of airflow in my case so i'm sold on em....highly recommended for positive air pressure inside the case....

if you're THAT worried about noise pick up a fan controller to slow them down (make them quieter) when you don't need their full effect

+1 :withstupid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb-0usGR-Ok watch the end of the video if your really worried about noise... wait a week and pick up the new noiseblocker pwn fans... they are suppose to move 100cfm at less then 27db far warning there expensive... my multiple frams were 25$ each plus shipping Edited by unknownuser200

Thanks for the replies gentleman, I think I will spend a bit more to get a little more silence. There are 4 Coolermaster case fans that will cost me an extra $10 total because I will have to have them shipped to me but they push 90CFM and only put out 19dBA so they will be better than what I have for far less noise.
