Guest joeyboy Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) Hey Guys new to this site because id like to get more experience when it comes to over clocking. I would also like advice with building gamer rigs I Edited January 1, 2010 by joeyboy
nns Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 CPU i7 920 (you can OC it if you want higher clocks as is the case with other 1366 proccys) V10 is good for a CPU cooler + RAM cooler.. but RAM coolers are just a luxury or meant for extreme OCing which cannot be achieved on air anyways.. so you can drop it for a 'dedicated' CPU cooler like Prolimatech Megahalems... GPU is good... You can have two of those later considering you have selected a 1000W PSU.. 750W would be good enough otherwise.. HDD: The setup seems fine but an additional 1TB WD Black would be good for storage.. Speakers: Go to the store and pick up a good branded set (I prefer Logitech, but I really don't know much).. What sort of audio set up are you looking at?
damian Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I think you'd be fine with something other than a V10. It just doesn't seem too practical to me, but that just my opinion. And if you do decidde to buy it well your getting something that you know will cool down your CPU really well. But some good options to consider are ZALMAN CNPS10X Quiet ZALMAN CNPS10X Extreme (roughly $10 more) As for the CPU a Core I7 920 should be fine, although i hear the new Core I7 930 will be released soon for the same price as the 920 now (and it seems to overclock better...on air) That PSU is a good choice. You could go with a 700-800w and save a few bucks but thats up to you. You're getting a great psu nonetheless. If you want any suggestions, the Corsair HX850W is an amazing unit. HDD - I'd get an Intel SSD (im not too updated on SSD's but i know Intel offers some of the best) and a WD Caviar Black or Seagate 7200.12 1TB
PingoPongo Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 The Intel Core i7 930 central processing unit will become widely available by the end of February and will have an initial price tag of $284. The processor is clocked at 2.80 GHz and will work on socket LGA 1366 motherboards. The total thermal design power of the Core i7 930 CPU is of 130W. source
IVIYTH0S Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 get the prolimatech megahalems (you might have to buy a 1366 adapter but it'd be worth it, it's like the best air cooler around) and run two ultra kazes in a push/pull, the V10 is ridiculous

ccokeman Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Intel DO stepping 920 for the CPU Noctua NH-D14 for the cooler ( It will fit the case you have listed) PSU looks good Good luck on the build
IVIYTH0S Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 ewww 2 ultra kazes...that's unbearably loud lol well not with a fan controller I was going for maximum cooling, he could still get some lower db slipstreams too :thumbs-up:
