emperor496 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 hi fellow overclockers.. I need recommendation about memory for OC. I'm thinking of getting OCZ Reaper 1200Mhz DDR2 or Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz. I couldn't find much review about OCZ. Is the brand matters? thank you all.. insan3 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 not really on the brand since its ocz n corsair. its about the timing's for OC and benchmarking.
emperor496 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 so 1200mhz would be better choice??
insan3 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 it just means it faster than the corsair. not necessary better
dihartnell Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Check the timings as well. The OCZ may be looser and therefore realworld performance may actually be slower. I have Some corsair DDR2 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15 modules and am able to crank them up to 1125MHz with the same timings.
kingdingeling Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 1200MHz OCZ sticks are the way to go IMO :thumbs-up:
overclocking101 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) the 1200mhz OCZ ram have the new low voltage chips on them and will overclock up around 1350/1400MHZ ddr2 the corsairs are running older promoschips or powerchips and will not the last dominator ddr2 I owned would not budge after 1100mhz if it were ddr3 I would say corsair but right now OCZ and crucial own the DDR2 market. get the OCZ actually dont get the reapers get the OCZ blades same chips same ram they just cost a bit less. the OCZ warranty is better than corsair as well. these are the blades: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memo...ge_blade_series 1200mhz at 5-5-5-18 is nothing to look past these are the reapers: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memo...hpc_4gb_edition 5-6-6-18 and tbh the blade series all use the same memory chips so if you buy OCZ blade ddr2 1066mhz/or1100mhz you will easily be able to overclock to 1200MHZ and further the OCZ platinum low voltage series have the same chips as the blades they just dont look as cool. I own the platinum LV 1066MHZ sticks and they overclock to 1200mhz no problem Edited December 11, 2009 by overclocking101
emperor496 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 its hard to find ocz blades in my place.. only reaper available..
ccokeman Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 4-4-4-12 at 900 to 1000Mhz will be faster than 1200 5-5-5 or 5-6-6. Its not worth the trade off to say you have high memory clocks if you really have to loosen the timings to get there.
