Fixing an LCD display

My sister gave an Asus 19" lcd disay that is having problems. I have figured out the problem. The problem is the ccfl backlight is going out. Is that something I could fix on my own if I wanted to get the display working.

 

Can I fix the monitor on my own?

You can replace the backlight assuming that you can find a replacement part. We do it everyday (albeit on a much larger scale).

Replacing a backlight usually requires a bit of soldering. It's usually more of a pain in the arse to disassemble the LCD panel than it is to solder the backlight leads on, though.

Warranty? If its still covered it may be worth it to ship it back to them.

Depending on the model/brand of panel you may or may not have to solder them in. Usually there is only one bad bulb. Lcd panels can have up to 24 bulbs depending on the size/brand, some are horseshoe in shape but most are straight bulbs and it eiher clip in or have to be soldered in. We order are replacement LCD parts from here;

The monitor is out of warranty and even if it wasn't I have already opened it to take a look. The reason I want to fix the display is basic I would be getting for very cheap if I did.
