Core i7 Temperature status ok ?

I have a core i7 920 build.

 

I use Ultra 120 extreme as passive cooler (no fan on it).Above the cooler there is a large 180mm fan intaking cool air and one

at the front of the case (positive air pressure).There is also one 120mm on the back blowing warm air outside the case(Silverstone ft01).

 

180mm fans run at 720RPM and 120mm at 1140RPM.

 

I also use IC diamond 7 thermal paste.

 

My idle temps using Realtemp is 49-50 Celsius.....and my load temps are over 84 Celsius.

 

Is that ok considering i have a passive cooler ???

50c is kinda hot at idle, and 84c load is blistering, I really don't have any core i7s but this seems hot to me.

It's not uncommon for i7's to run that hot, but it's not good for them in any way. According to Intel, the maximum temp it should reach is 67.9C.

For some reason, i7 just doesn't sound like something that would play nicely with passive cooling...

Honestly, why do you using it as passive? If what you want is silence, there are many very very quiet fans out there that provide decent CFM. And even a low CFM will probably lower your temperature A LOT.

Fans loudness is measured in dBA if you didn't know, anything around 20 or under is basically impossible to hear unless you are very close it.

Thanks for replying.

 

My goal is silence because I compose my own tracks and I am into the music every day because of my studies (Music technology and acoustics).

 

So silence is important to me and I know about dBs and silent fans.....at the beginning I thought passive would be good but core i7s turned to be hot.

 

Now I am waiting for thermaltake's ISGC Fan to be released.

Scythe's Gentle Typhoon must be great fans also.

 

I thought that max temp for i7 was 100c when intel set max at 68c?

 

Many systems out there have temps above 70c.

Another thing that confuses me.

 

Real temp shows idle 49-50 celsius.

Everest Ultimate 37celsius (Core1:50,Core2:47,Core3:47,Core4:45).

My kaze master ace 38 celsius.

 

Which one i trust ???

Intel sets the max temp at 67C , which is the temp measured at the IHS and not the core temp. Your core temps could be 10-15C warmer than your IHS temps which explains why people are running over the "recommended" temps. A 70C core temp is still within the chips thermal limits. 80C core temps are beginning to push the envelope of safe and I would try to keep things cooler if possible.
