That's not true if you order from Newegg and live in CA, NJ, or TN.

i live in nj, that's why people think I'm crazy when I say Tiger direct is sometimes cheaper than them (and for most things I have bought lately it has been).

Bah, cmon guys read the article. I dont mean sales tax... the stimulus deal is saying computer and "educational" software (like an OS) purchases can be written off on your income taxes, either for the student or the parent upon whom the student is dependent. Couple grand tax write-off for a sweet i7 system... sounds cool to me!

 

Edit: I know it says it must be predominantly educational in nature, but a new i7 system or something close to it can actually be quite critical for math/science/engineering/graphic design/web design/programming students. I know some of the MatLab programs I used/created were pretty slow and could have benefitted from something faster than I had back then. Just something to keep in mind for all you college students this year :D
