gebraset Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The cheapest I can find a 9600GSO for is something like $80 or $85 after shipping costs, which is much more than I want to spend. So I might end up going with a cheaper card. Can anyone recommend a good folding one that would cost say, maybe $60 dollars or less? Again, this computer is just replacing a old ten year old Gateway, lol. So it doesn't need to be anything good, lol.
gebraset Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Little bump here. Lucky me, the motherboard just sold out. So, I'll have to order that when it's back in stock I guess. But all the other parts are still available, and I'd like to purchase tonight. So, what do you all think of this list instead? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811233041 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102805 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817703018 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16823126018 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820146118 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103211 And obviously the motherboard listed earlier. Skip buying the graphics card for the moment. It's not necessary. Just run SMP, until you find a good deal on the cards I mentioned above. gebraset Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Alright, I went ahead and purchased a different keyboard and mouse, and removed the video card for now. I'll just use integrated for the moment. Obviously, I still have to wait for the motherboard to get back into stock, but I'm on the notify list. So hopefully it'll be soon so I can pick it up. gebraset Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I ordered some more parts that I didn't plan on including, such as a new hard drive for the build and a new optical drive. I just got everything today from UPS, and I will probably start working in it sometime after this weekend. I do have a Palit Radeon HD 4850 Sonic however that I could hook up to the motherboard, which would allow me to use this computer as my main rig. I'm wondering though, will the power supply be enough to power it along with a slight overclock on the processor? I'm personally thinking not, but I also haven't dealt with new hardware for a good four or five years, lol. Thanks again everyone for your great help. paulktreg Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) The HD4850 is about 110W maximum. If you went for the PC P&P 370W you will have enough, even with an overclock, with some to spare. Cheers Paul Edited February 13, 2009 by paulktreg
gebraset Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Excellent, that's great to hear Paul! And yes, I did go ahead and purchase the PC&P 370W. So I'm hoping on some overclocking of the processor and also planning to get that graphics card going in there as well. Hopefully I'll be able to use this build as my main rig and replace this old piece of crap I've been using for a while.
gebraset Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Talk about a bump, lol. Right now I've got the computer stable, with the RAM running at 667 and tight timings, and the processor running at 3.12GHz. It is getting a bit hot right now, so I'm looking into a aftermarket cooler. The case isn't huge, so I don't know about a 120mm one. Tough call if it'll fit I think, so I'm thinking of going for a smaller size. Does anyone have some good recommendations? As of right now, I'm also waiting for the video card to return from RMA. The RAM on it was clocked too high, and I was getting some very bad artifacts. I'm hoping it will be here sometime soon, but I haven't heard a word from Palit yet on it. I'll try to upload some pictures pretty soon as well.
gebraset Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about the XIGMATEK HDT-S963 but I'm not sure.

I have a similar Xigmatek (S1283 I believe) and you can't beat the performance for the price.
