James Bond Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 I was recently given an AMD 2500+ Barton and i am thinking about building using it to build a small dedicated server for LANing. Is this a good idea, and what sort of mobo should i be looking for to go with it?
Will Smith Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 the 2500+ will be fine for a server. Depending on whether ur gonna run linux or WIndows the only thing u need to make sure of is ram. A good server will atleast have 1 gig of ram to handle that if not more.
bigred Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 I don't know for sure what is "enough". I run dual opterons for my game server with 12gb of ram... I don't think you really need that much

O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 I would go with a dual-processor setup, and run games one at a time.

Propane Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 wow... that would suck if we had to pay 300 a month to have a LAN... I ran a dedicated server for laning on a 1.1Ghz AMD w/ 256Mb RAM... it was tough though

bigred Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 don't complain about $300 a month. my little "side" business of running offiste storage costs me ~ $1100 a month. and I don't use it for fun stuff either. the only plus to is that it makes that $$$ 3x over every month.
