Queenz Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 At some point I was considering the 8800GTX simply because it was so ridiculously cheap, but price isn't much of an issue as I have plenty saved specifically for the build, but I'm wiser than I used to be when I started out, which is why the GX2 was a prime option being I'm aware of it's performance, and it's $219. Â Â I know that 9800GX2 for $219 is a good deal and you really can't beat it.
Hyper Threaded Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Problem with the 9800GX2, it's just a rehash of old technology. Going with the 4870 gives you the option of Crossfire later on, with Intel chipsets.
Queenz Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 9800GX2= 2x 9800GTX's
Hyper Threaded Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 It's still old technology, basically an 8800gtx they put in the microwave. Why have that creaky old pile of rubble, when you could have a 4870.
iKillSteal Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Because a 9800GX2 tends to perform better?

r3d c0m3t Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 So, we're all on the same page then - go with the GX2 because it's a steal at $219 with killer performance?
XiXVenomXiX Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Yea, just buy the 9800 GX2, insane perfomance at a great price. If im not mistaken though, the 9800 GX2 is NOT two 9800/8800 GTX cards slapped together, its more like two 8800 GTS 512MB cards. Queenz Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Make sure you have enough room in your case for the 9800GX2 cause that card is like almost 11"
