laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Well, if it's not, I know why my OC attempts have been failing. At idle, both SmartGuardian and CoreTemp were reporting the same temps, ~73-77*F. Then I loaded both cores with Prime, and SmartGuardian reports 101-105*F, but CoreTemp reports 120-124*F for Core 0 and 131-135*F for Core 1!! WTF is up, and why is there such a discrepancy between loaded temps? Which one is more accurate? Thx.
Kaxx Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Core Temp will almost always be higher when you put a load on your CPU. At least in my case Speedfan said something around 40C and Core Temp was around 54C for 1 core, and 56C for the other(these are Celsius which most people use on here, not Fahrenheit) Which version of SG are you using?? Mine doesen't show core temps, just CPU temp (1 temp)
Thraxz Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Are you insane? Get some better cooling on that chip ASAP! I won't let my chips top 60C because A) it kills the overclock and B) the chips aren't supposed go that hot... period.
laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 They're not over 60*C, Thraxz. I never use *C because I served the USA for 6 years so I can use *F and all the other wonderful USA measurements, not Imperial or Metric My main question is why there is such a large difference between the programs, and which one is more accurate. thejamesvolta Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 OT...when's the US gonna jump on the bandwagon with the rest of the world and use Celcius, metric, etc.? It'll make everything so much easier. You should definately invest in some better cooling.
laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I have the best air-cooler available, the Scythe Ninja. I think another thing might be that I use Ceramique instead of AS5, but I don't know if that would make more than a 2-3* difference. I have a P180 on the way (Monday), but right now so I could Prime (BTW, it's finally Prime stable for 8+ hours @2898.3MHz) I had the side of my case off with a box fan blowing into the case. Does anybody know why there is a 20-30* discrepancy between SG and CT?
27floyd Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 alot of people have the same issue including me. If its stable its not too hot.....
sswilson Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 What kind of voltages are you using? If we're talking about the OC in your sig I'd be really suspicious of the first temps. 21c @ idle for that kind of OC on air is pretty well unheard of. laserred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 It's actually Primed for 8 hours at 322*9, 1.48V indicated in SmartGuardian. Both SG and CoreTemp report the same idle temps, CT is actually usually 2-6*F cooler than SG. For instance, with the box fan blowing on the open case, CT and SG both indicate 68-76*F, but like I said, SG temps only go up 24-26*F under 100% load, while CT jumps 55*F+. I'm confused. red930 Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Its CRAZY Well 135*F is 57c and under a hard clock core temp read 58C and some times 60c so your not to far off. SmartGuardian reports 101-105*F well thats 40c thats as good as most get with water. I play around with 1.7vcore alot my BT hit 38c under 100% load and core temp read 54c to
