Computer Rebooting , Need Serious Help!

Recommended Posts

I just built a new computer for my friend and the only parts that are used are the case . All the cables and hardware are connected. When i press the power button on the computer, the computer turns on, motherboard lights turn on, all the fans on the motherboard, video card, ect all turn on.. dvd burner ejects, ect .. I can go to the bios and it detects the 4800 dual core amd, shows the hardrive, burner, ram, ect are detected.. i selected cdrom as the first boot device, and stuck the windows xp cd in.. the problem is after the bios ect goes through, and its suppose to pop up the message "booting from cd" (after pci devices screen) or atleast try detecting a hardrive.. it shows nothing. The LCD monitor flicks and a mssage "No signal" appears and the computer reboots. If i was to keep the computer on it would repeat this reboot process indefinately at the same spot. I havent had a problem like this before when building computers and was wondering if anyone has any idea why it would be rebooting itself at the same spot everytime just before "booting from cd " can appear. . Any Suggestions? ive disconnected the hardrive , cdrom, switched out the ram, switched out the video card, and it still reboots at the same spot. It is a dual core 4800+, and i believe the bios date is 4/6/2006.

Thanks,

Sounds like you have not verified memory with memtest try following this guide it should help:http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=49

Building a DFI mobo rig is different han anything else. That guide works well even if you have built 100s of rigs most A+ cert people can not build these rigs. But that guide should get ya through it and also read the OC guide here as has great information even for stock rigs. Good Luck!

I have the main 24 pin connector connected, i have the 4 pin connector connected to the motherboard, i have the hardrive / cd rom connected , and i have that connector on the actual motherboard connected . That it? Motherboard powers on, led's light up , fan turns on ect, detects all the parts in the bios also.

Also to the suggestion of running mem test, i cant get it to read a cd on boot.. even if the cd rom was broken it should try to detect the hardrive or try loading it and give an error, but nothing happens , freezes before verifying dma .. boot from cd message.

Also check out the guide I added to my sig. This was what I (and many others) have used to get everything up and running. Don't skip any steps, or you'll be sorry when you have to start troubleshooting.

Note that it could be a PSU problem, but try memtest first
