hartigan Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Could anyone explain the difference between my Marvell LAN Port and my Vitesse LAN Port? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to one or the other? Thank you very much for your help. -hartigan

ebdoradz Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 i use marvell lan, but vitesse lan work the same way has the marvell, they use same cpu usage and go to same speed, (thats with nvidia active armor not installed) its not recommend to use the active armor, it cauze packet corruption and lan drop
baaj Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I use the marvell. No particular reason though. same speed, etc
hartigan Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I guess my question would be, then, WHY would they put two completely unique LAN chipsets on the board. I know variety is the spice of life but, this just seems pointless unless someone can point out a practical reason for this. I'm questioning this purely out of curiosity not, criticism. -hartigan
baaj Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Pure speculation...but DFI might have a relationship with Marvell and is contractually bound to use their chipsets for x number of years or mobos. When nvidia had an integrated LAN chipset in the nf4, DFI just added both. Am I right? Anyone?
koolaidkitten Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 my stabbing guess is because 2 nic's were HIGHLY requested on PC's to ease the use of ICS. But I guess now days in this day and age of cheap home routers this isn't really of use anymore, but they just still put them on. *shrugs*
