lowboy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I would check cpu in another comp or RMA it.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I already tried to RMA it, but they tested it in the shop and it worked fine... I will try it in a mate's PC tonight and see how it goes.
lowboy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Ok reread all posts I would say it's the seasonic thing but don't know why now. I would try with minimum components hooked up and see if works if not post back and will get more help as will talk to happy or exroadie. Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 OK, what else can i remove, the only things currently connected to the mobo are 4 power connectors, CPU/HSF, a single memory module, video card, and the case leds/buttons. BTW, I just put the 3000 CPU back in and the DRAM LED is on, whereas with the 4400 it blinks then stays off, would this indicate a PSU issue as well? lowboy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 With the 3000 would it boot or not.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 yep, 3000 continues to work fine
red930 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Flashing Amber LED is a sign of PSU failure.
Kentiad Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I wouldn't say it was flashing, when first plugged in the bottom amber LED flashes once then stays on, the top one (near the DRAM slots), just barely gets lit (very small and quick blink), then stays off. I have read some of the other threads dealing with the seasonic issues and it doesn't sound good. Does the 4400 draw more power than the 3000? Could that be what's pushed the PSU over the edge? red930 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Does the 4400 draw more power than the 3000? Could that be what's pushed the PSU over the edge? Just enough to cause the issue.
Kentiad Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 OK. So my only option is to RMA the PSU then? I don't have any >480w PSU's I can test it with, but is it safe to use a lesser PSU just for testing?
nailzs Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 My computer ran fine with a 465 Enermax PS while my old Antec PS was out for RMA, it died in 7 months time.
red930 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 You don't want to run an under-powered unit for any longer than necessary. Heat and stress are a killer for power supplies and motherboards.
