mtx Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Will any of the NF4 boards be compatible with the 7900GT, specifically the NF4 Ultra-D, SLI-DR & Expert? Just want to make sure the card wont be touching the chipset cooler or anything else.
BlackDragon24 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 shouldn't be a problem on any of the LP boards....my 7900gt works fine with the EXPERT.
Starkey Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 yeah, should be no prob, as long as it has a PCI-E port it will be OK
mtx Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Hmm, Expert has a different board layout compared to the SLI-DR and Ultra-D no? Im still not sure if Im gettin the Expery yet
ronin688 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I've got the 7900GT CO SC and it is a tight fit over the chipset fan, but it does fit just fine. It is VERY tight clearance, like a few mm. If you don't like it being right on top of the chipset fan you can always move the card into the 2nd PCI-e slot.
bcbooter Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 basically every card rides teh chipset fan guard thing.....but all the cards seem to fit the same
mtx Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 What if we replace the chipset cooler with a Vantec Iceberq or a Evercool. Would that improve or deprove the situation?
Frenchy2k1 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 It stays the same. I have a 7900GT (Gigabyte, but basically a reference design) and it fitted without any problem with the stock cooler and now that i replaced it with an evercool VC-RE. The card can sometime touche the top of the heatsink, but it is harmless.
