RAM Wont work (in certain slots)

Recommended Posts

So, I just bought a DFI LanParty UT nf4 Ultra-D motherboard and tried to put my 2 sticks of generic RAM in dual-channel, which didnt work (I wasnt surprised) so I had to put them in the top 2 slots...

Until I got another 256mb stick, I put that in the 3rd slot and it wouldnt boot. So I took it out, then tried to put 1 512mb stick ONLY in the 3rd slot, and it wouldnt boot :( I then tried the 4th, same thing...and with the other 512mb and the 256mb, both wouldnt boot...

So Im wondering, what s supposed to be happening???Are my mobos slots shot?

Any help appreciated. :)

First of all, don't use generic RAM. It's just so stupid when you have a Opteron 144 and Ultra-D made for OC. Check the manual on how to properly use Dual Channel.

hey MDSarcasm,

i have a similar sit to yours, started thread couple days ago:

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?p=478140

this problem seems to me is not rare (there are links in the thread above).

however from what i saw there is no common connection, different mobos etc...

try to check other ram sticks to rull on the ones you got, i'm gonna borrow.

if not the ram it's either the cpu (mem controller) or the mobo. i'm sorry but there doesn't seem to be a bias to either.

Hello,

Board will not work in the memory is in the 3rd slot.

Board will not work in the memory is in the 4th slot.

You can only use the 2 top slots.

Mixing memory modules that are different sizes = not going to work.

So everything is as it should be.

lol... I have posted in all of those threads... Here is my situation:

Ram and processor worked fine in dual channel on other boards...

Ram runs fine in single channel on Ultra-D with two different processors...

Ram does not run fine in dual channel ( have tried two different processors)

Some say it's an opteron problem and it may be, but their seem to be plenty of people with the exact same problem that have a64's.

IDK

Is there anone who has an Ultra-D and has their RAM in dual channel here?
er yep at least 99% of users. i've run on ultra-D + SLI-DR with opteron.

when u try to run in dual channel what settings are u using ??

Have you tried nudging up your memory volts to see if that gives any extra stability.
