Limnos Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Enermax NoiseTaker II 600watt: Great PSU. Worked in 3 other PCs being newer and older mobos. The infinity board loved it. I have pumped it up to a 27% OC then back down to 15% becuase heat issues. Very stable on a mobo that will take it. Only one of them was running the 5v at 5.5 Volts. I never really found out why it was doing that. So with the $160 I am getting refunded for the RMA of the PSU. I should get a OCZ PSU being the most successful PSU for the Expert board? The most succesful I have seen are the Fortron Epsilon units (600W or 700W). If that is simply a factor of there not being that many people with them or if they are at lower risk...I couldn't tell you. I know mine works fine and most others do as well. The OCZ 600W seem to have more issues than the 520W, but they are not immune either. The Epsilon's are not on the recommended list as the list is getting outdated, but RGone (one of the ubermods) recommends them all the time and ExRoadie (another ubermod) uses one as well. This is not to argue with you, it's simply out of interest since I myself own an Epsilon: - I've tried hard, but I've just been able to find two users reporting a cold-boot issue - even though it seems to be very slight indeed - so have you seen more reports? It’s just that so many are asking for recommendations and so far I’ve without hesitation recommended the Forton Epsilon. Only thing that will change in the future is adding another video card in about a year. This is what is in or beside my P-180 case. DFI Expert AMD 3700+ OCZ PC4000 Gold 2x250 Western Digital 16mb cache HD's BFG 7900 GT XFI Music extreme Asus DVD-CDWR Asetek CPU/VGA/Northbridge Dual Fan Radiator (not setup or tested yet.) As I explained before only hitting the rocker switch will get it to boot... my ocz 600w should be here tomorrow. If that doesnt work I will try the OCZ GameXStream Power Supply. I have used two PSU's and neither have worked. Enermax NoiseTaker II & Sintek 600SLI 600W do not work with my Expert. I started with $200 to spend on a PSU. I am now down to 120 after 2 RMA's. If the last one doesnt do it I will get another board. I dont mind tinkering for a month or two jus tweaking, but if the board will not boot. I will just get another one or different kind. Its just being to picky. Though I never have heard of mother boards just not liking PSU's. Why is it that these last few boards have been so picky? Dont they do tests to see what works with them and supply the public that are buying these things with this kinda info. I would rather not have to rely on other people to just to get it to boot. I have used two PSU's and neither have worked. I was about to really push the Epsilon with the P180 (I have it too) as the Epsilon fits great in this case. But, I see you went with the OCZ so be aware it is a very long PSU, so you will likely have to remove your stock bottom case fan (one in front of the PSU) or install a thinner fan in that space. Yeah some boards have issues (as do some of every other component at some point), if it does not boot with the new PSU, I would definitely RMA the board.
