Borisw37 Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 My boss at work got a virus on his computer, and i get to fix it. Here is the description. win dows xp, HP 1.1ghz comp, 40gig drive, dial up connection, Norton Internet security is installed. The computer works fine till you try to go online. Withing 10 minutes (usually less) of connecting to the internet, a Windows message pops up saying "your computer will be shut down in 60...59..58.....2...1 seconds" Otherwise the computer works fine. I tried running Norton Internet security but there is no action when i click on the icon. The hour glass appears, for a second, and thats it. I tried uninstalling Internet security and reinstalling it, but its all the same... My plan is to make a Norton Antivirus boot disk, and try using that.. What else can i do? What kind of virus is this?
AYoKoNA Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 (edited) Sorry never heard of that kind of virus. The worst are when they eat up all your system resources and the comp just freezes. Personally I don't like just cleaning a comp after it has a virus. I prefer to kill the master boot record and format. Kill MBR Re-format Edited September 3, 2003 by AYoKoNA

I ran the small utility by Norton just for that virus, could not find anything... I ran f-scan utility, nothing..... I tried installing the windows patch and every time i get the following error: "KB823980 Setup Error Could not verify update.inf Make sure Cryptographic Service is running" I did verify that the service is running. I restarted the service a couple of times, but still get the error... What do i do.
Bosco Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 Try Msconfig in the run menu and see if blaster is listed to run at startup <_>
