LeskiL Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I've got to ask, when you run a game are you using both processors? Are you sure it's setting affinity to one cpu core? I havent checked that. How do i do it About the memtest, i'm gonna run one now, havent tryed it
rgdiz Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Should have said start chosen game then > Ctrl+Alt+Del > task manager > game. Rt click >goto process >rt click >set affinity and select only one cpu.
Fight Game Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 If you pass prime95 torture test for 8hrs, then I don't think memtest is really neccessary, but that's just my opinion. If, you can pass all these benchmarks, except 3dmark05, then that points to the graphics card. 3dmark05 is the only benchmark we're talking about here, that stresses the gpu. Are you overclocking it? Have you tried different graphics drivers? What temp does your graphics card get up to? Sometimes, in this type of case, it may also NOT be your graphics card, but the heat your graphics card puts off, wheh stressed, that affects other components, like the chipset (or cpu and ram, but most often chipset, because of placement). Sharp Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Hello, Memtest should be the first program you run when powering a pc for the first time. Also Corsair memory does not always work 100%. Try 1 stick at a time. These power supplies are rubbish, a potential hazard. http://www.qtec.info/products/group.htm?pc...ER-SUPPLY-UNITS Make sure that all 4 power connectors are plugged into the board # 24pin ATX connector. # 4pin +12v P4 connector, near the ATX connector. # Floppy power connector, under the CPU socket. # Hard drive power connector, on top the chipset fan. Once in windows you must install the following and in this order # SP2 if it is not integrated to your CD. (download full installer here, burn it to a cd) Get SP2 here # Restart and install the nVidia chipset drivers, (You could burn it to the SP2 CD). Get nVidia chipset drivers here - Do not install the nvidia firewall/network access manager software - Do not install the IDE SW driver * Note, if you install these Audio drivers you do not need to install the RealTek ones. # Restart the PC and wait a bit Next you can install your GFX card drivers # Download them here, maybe burn it to the same CD as the XP SP2 one. Get ATi drivers here Get nVidia drivers here # Restart your PC and wait a bit Now you should be ready to install your other applications. # You can install the Marvell driver now (if you want) # Install other software. Get another power supply too.
Miller1236 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Sharp, what is this power connection for? And do I have to connect power to it. [/img]
wevsspot Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 That is additional power for your video cards. I recommend to plug power here at all times, whether you're running SLi or not.
Sharp Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 They provide the board with better sources (access points) of power.
LeskiL Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I just checked and all the power connecters is on... Had no problems with my memory, testing.
Sharp Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Also if the gfx card requires one you must have it plugged in. The problem (Should I say A or B) your power supply A = is B = could be I am going to go for A. The problem is your power supply. Reason being that Q-tec are very bad and lots of people get problems with their PSUs. Get it replaced with something good. Then see what happens. Dynomutt Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I agree with sharp i hate Q-Tec PSU's ive had a few of them and was not impressed, i would not trust one with my rig plus they are overrated as 550w will be its peak wattage. adamb2k5 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I am curious, what error message(s) did Windows give you the first time you ran 3DMark? And did you notice the performance issue in the first 2 3DMark tests? Those first two tests should run pretty smooth. Also how long while you are playing games before the performance starts to degrade? If it's immediately, I suspect it is not the affinity problem. But with your dual core processor, you should learn about the affinity problem and get used to running your games on a single core if you have a game performance issue. By the way that is a good 3DMark score for your system.
