red930 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 All good free things must come to an end sometime. I just purchased it so I can continue on using it's features I have so grown to trust.

Confined Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I'm gonna keep the free version of Everest I have installed backed-up on CD-R. Yay.
red930 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 The EVEREST Home version will continue to work but without database updates. I use the tool to identify unknown hardware on rigs that come into the shop. My newest tech was simply astounded that I could come behind him and get all the drivers loaded on a rig. One day I took a call and unbeknownst to me he found EVEREST running. After he completed the next couple of rigs without problems I complemented him on getting better at identifying hardware. UNTIL! I caught him running EVEREST. LOL It was only a matter of time before they started charging. When Tomas Miklos sold Aida32 to Lavalys two years ago he only stipulated that the software remain free for six months. So I guess we got a bit of a gift. Cooler Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Lavalys has ended the free EVEREST program. Looks like we need a new tool. Sad, sad day. This was one of those freebie goodies stacked into my "USB Memory key ToolBox". Time to start searching for good replacement... Squid1 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Good. This memory bandwidth benchmark lead many people to waste money on memory with no real-world improvements.

red930 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Somewhere in my collection of backups is a copy of EVEREST version 0.31 beta. The last release before they ended the freeware was 2.20.475 beta. It has the same hardware database as the release version of EVEREST Ultimate 2.50.480 They changed the format and encoding of the .bin file to make it incompatible with the free version.
