Does X-Fi work with Win64?

I have been reading on the forums (here as well as other places), and it seems that in spite of the problems with X-Fi, some have had it work just fine. And some are sending it back to Creative for updated chips, which then allows it to work.

My question is, has anyone gotten it to work with Win64? Cuz I can't seem to. Creative stuff is installed, but when I go to Sound in control panel, everything is greyed out. Karajan would be better than this!

I am also having compatibility issues with some other software, such as Quicken, which I need, so it is beginning to look like Win32 may be in my near future, unfortunately. I really like the idea of running Win64, and I think it will be the way of the future, just a lack of support right now.

So if you have gotten X-Fi to work on Win64, please holler back at me, and tell me what you did. I am running 623-3, btw.

Thanks!

F6

I had smilar issues at first but it was not 64. Basically, if you havent, uninstall those drivers and get the latest driver cleaner. From all my reading online, uninstall any old sound drivers, regardless if they were creative or not. Run driver cleaner and strip them. Then reinstall.

I have to do this when bf2 quits recognizing my X-Fi card on occasion. Of course, you are talking about other things on a different OS, but maybe it can help, love to hear if you have anyluck!

this is a post from planetamd64.com

X-Fi drivers for Vista are out here: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/d...x=14&Image4.y=1

According to the thread here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/bo...essage.id=37654

With slight modification they work in x64 allowing for full surround and EAX.

I'll try and get XP x64 installed tonight and confirm, but I thought I'd let you guys know now.

Pyrosee... I don't see that as being an issue, since it is a clean system, and I installed off the Creative CD. Unless you are talking about getting newer drivers elsewhere? I will check out Creative again, but I didn't see anything that looked promising yesterday. The only software updates they show for Win x64 is Mediasource. No signs yet of crivers for the card. Perhaps a phone call to them will help make this right.

Pyro.... Thanks for the try, but both those links are bad. I'll do some snooping around again at PlanetAMD and see what I can see. I didn't find a solution last night, but then again, it was very late.

Thanks for the replies, fellas!

Thanks Pyro, I will give it a shot, though I don't have much hope. I tried that same driver, though it was _0003, and this is _0004. The original would not even run on the machine.

According to some stuff I found, drivers for XP64 are due around next summer. bummer. Looks like I will be going back to WinXP32 for now, cuz I want to hear some sounds coming outta my mean machine!

Thanks again,

F6
