ap90033 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I bought an Aspire XNavigator with 500Watt power supply about a year and a half ago. I bought this one because of a review on Anandtech's website. They said it was a wonderful case and power supply. I paid close to 200 for it. Any way I have been running my opteron 165 at 2.5 ghz for about 8 months now with no problems. the 12v + says 34a so I figured well within limits especially for one card. What the heck! Now your telling me that Anandtech recommended crap to me? How do I know if my power supply is solid? Help, geez I tried to get top stuff.... http://www.atruereview.com/aspirepsu/powersupply.php http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/oth...ameleon/pg3.htm http://reviews.pimprig.com/power_supply/as..._psu.php?page=3 http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2254&p=11 "With inclusion of a 500W aluminum power supply, which is no piece of junk, the price that we would pay for the X-Navigator is worth every penny. The X-Navigator runs for about $160 at many online retailers, which is a great value. As we mentioned in our "Cooling" section, the 500W power supply runs for about $55, which is a steal in itself for the performance output. davidhammock200 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Aspire PSU's go not even claim to meet the ATX/Intel/AMD min specs for load regulation. I recommend replacing it!

" With respect for the effort you put into trying to research this PSU, and sympathy for what you are now discovering ... Stay far away from used car salesmen. They will not make you happy. Also remember - what was a good PSU two years ago on an Ultra-D, And was an OK PSU one year ago with (then) newer video cards on and Ultra-D, Is a disaster today on a Expert with SLI. The target keeps moving.
davidhammock200 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 This is the best & most expensive Aspire PSU, I could find (680W/$100): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817148022 Specs from the Aspire website: http://aspireusa.net/product.php?pid=182 Please note the +12V load regulation is +/-10%, the ATX/Intel/AMD spec is +/-5% except for peak loads. Aspire PSU's are BAD!
