New Computer Build

I would check over on the other forums and see what all they are having to say about 4GB just to be safe. That way you don't spend unnecessary $$ only to find out it won't perform as well as you would like. Never hurts to check. :)

And also, the reason I am going with 4 gigs of ram is because I will eventually do it anyway. This way I know that all the sticks are identical. Another reason is because I have the money NOW, in a few months I don't know how much I will have.

If anyone is wondering why I am pretty much maxing everything out; it's because I plan to use this comp for 3-4 years, and I want it to be able to handle anything I throw at it in that time.

I know it's just me, but the way technology is advancing, I'd rather spend about $1000-$1500 a year or so and build a new rig each year. First, it's exciting getting new parts, and plus, a top of the line computer, built 3-4 yrs ago, isn't exactly what I would call amazing now. I'd say in 3-4 yrs, 4GB of RAM will be pretty much what "standard" is, and 8GB+ will be the top-line amount. I'd be surprised if they didn't hop at something beyond 64-bit by then, let alone a crazy new wave of GPUs and CPUs... I mean, think about where CPUs were 4 yrs ago... if I'm not mistaken, that's when the Barton talk started to surface. I'm not sure of anything though of course, but I do know that technology is advancing radically fast, and with that it's hard to build a system and expect it to be great 4 yrs from now.

Sorry for the rant, but I guess it's better to have more on your plate to think about as opposed to not enough...

Got use for nearly 2 terabytes, mikeohara? :D

yes, it's called mp3s ... and porn ... and storage for games. As far as a decent power supply goes, I'm looking at the next up Enermax model that's SLi certified (the 610w) ... maybe a PCP&C supply. Also looking at making a case change to the Lian-Li V1000.

The Lian-Li V1000 is BEAUTIFUL... I just setup my PC in it today. I love it love it love it love it.... you get the point. I moved all my stuff over from my "old" Lian-Li PC65B w/ Window case, and even though the other case is beautiful too, this one wins in terms of functionality and whatnot. Hell it even comes w/ a blower fan! :)
