Cheeko Papa Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Will the "Samsung PC3200 512MB DDR400 184PIN DIMM OEM " specically from http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=9545 be able to run well with the DFI? or is it just too "generic" to work? I've seen some people hit some high clocks with Samsung on DFI's.......maybe it's just luck?

I've seen some people hit some high clocks with Samsung on DFI's.......maybe it's just luck? They don't give any info on this module. Bad buy. While Samsung doesn't make bad memory chips, there are a few problems here. If Samsung is the module vendor here, there is no guarantee that there are actually Samsung chips on the modules (although it is likely). Also, even if they are Samsung chips, Samsung will sell the chips that test good to RAM vendors that make high-quality modules and leave those chips that are not special for those modules where nothing special is promised. If you want cheap I would look for Geil Value or OCZ Performance (not OCZ Value).

Buckshot Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 OK my current setup is in sig and i'm looking to jump to 2gigs of ram. this is where i get lost since i want my new ram to run close to or better than my current ram. here are my current 2 choices let me know if i should be looking else where plz. 2GB Dual Channel Kit PN - OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K 2-3-2-5 or 2GB (2x1024) D/C Kit PN – OCZ5002048EBPE-K 3-3-2-8 its a big diffrence in price and potential performance so i want to make a good choice. if there is a better choice that i am missing could someone point me to it. Thanks in advance, Buck
Sharp Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Hello, A PC4000 2x1GB kit will make better use of your CPU overclock than a PC3200 2x1GB kit. But a 2x1GB kit is only better for applications/games that take a lot of memory. If you are going to be benchmarking a 2x512MB kit will seem to be better due to the lower latencies. If you want smooth gameplay for the latest games and quicker loading times the PC4000 2x1GB kit is the way to go.

I'm not to worried about benchmarks more concernd with my gaming performance (BF2, Q4, Farcry, F.E.A.R., etc...). Is the OCZ the best choice here or should i be considering Ballistix possibly? both have a high price tag. i have seen a review of the OCZ @ AnandTech have not spotted alot on much else out there. Thanks again!!! Buck
Sharp Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Yeah this one is very good and the BallistiX 2x1GB kit. http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memo...ual_channel_kit

In price, yes, but the difference in actual application performance when going from 200 MHz RAM to 250 MHz RAM is on the order of a single percent if you have an AMD64 around 2.5 GHz.
