WOL and wake on keyboard problem.

Recommended Posts

I'm probably the only one that actually uses these features on this board---or I should say try to.

Wake on keyboard does work, but one has to press the keyboard twice to get it to boot up. When I press the keyboard once the system light flashes on but goes off (no fans spin up). When I press it again though the system boots up normally.

WOL does a similar thing as to when I send it a magic packet (inside network so there is no routing issues) the light flashes once, but then does nothing else even after I send it another packet.

I know my PSU is compatable because I used it with my last MOBO and it was able to do WOL. Also, another interesting note is when I switch the jumpers on the board to supply 5vsb to the usb the board will NOT boot. I have to leave it on the default 5v jumper.

Is this a bug with my board or a bios issue? I'm not at home so I can't check but I believe I am using the lastest 6-28 release.

IMO it seems this is a very similar problem that people are having with booting DFI NF4 boards, and powersupplies. The one thing in common between them and you is +5VSB, which your WOL and Wake on keyboard use, as well as the USB (if you use that jumper).

Just out of curiosity, you should try disabling WOL and WOK, and enable the USB to +5VSB, and see if that will work when the other options are disabled (not useing +5VSB). Of course that gets you nowhere, but tells you if the problem is indeed +5VSB.

I've read on some other forums that DFI used the +5VSB for various circuits on the motherboard, so it's possible that it is drawing too much current. Of course this is just my speculation, but i would be curious to know if anyone can enable every option in the bios that uses +5VSB and still have a functional PC while using the 'A List' power supplies ;)

Ok, changed the settings in the bios and still no go.

Here is what happens:

When I change the upper 5vsb jumper (the one near the audio ports) and plug the PSU back into the wall there is a little yellow LED in the bottom left of the mobo that continuesly blinks. The power button does not respond. Placing the jumper back to regular 5v works fine.

Changing the 5vsb near the usb headers results in it turning on, but not posting. The yellow led does not blink.

Having them both 5vsb results in the first problem of not turning on with blinking yellow led.

I'm thinking that maybe this is a problem with the mobo since my psu (as listed in the pdf) delivers 2A on the 5vsb rail, and the fact that it obviously is supplying that voltage otherwise wake on keyboard would not work at all for me.

There some issue with Seasonic PSUs and the way it handles the 5vsb rail thats causing some issues. Might be related to your problems. Theres a big thread on it here:

Yes, the problem is real & is being worked on.

Pick a "proven" PSU from the "A" list  : http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854

I use a ps2 kb and WoK, left the jumper at default ( I think its 5v), never had a problem with it. I like using the kb, saves me from reaching all the way under my desk and pushing the power button (yeah I'm lazy ;) ) It also makes me feel like I'm some l33t tech dude that doesn't have to use a primitive case power button anymore :)

  • 2 months later...

I also had the same USB wakeup / not booting problem, but I know its my power supply (re-used from previous system) due to replace shortly ;) , but other than this I've had no other power related issues.

I got WOL to work fine by switching from the Nvidia Lan port to the Marvell one. (plus settings in Bios etc.) Now I just this freeware from my Laptop to access it: WOL Gui Software

Dunno if this will solve the problem for you...
