Wow that is just nuts! What cooler were you using? I was thinking that with a half decent cooler this thing could hit 4Ghz.
sorry for the late reply been all over lately. It's a sunbeam core contact cooler
the temps weren't bad at all but I couldn't get the chip to get any more probably on my end since this was the first time I did an overclock without just using the multiplier lol
-
Yeah I was hearing that with the smaller nm sizes of newer chips they were having less poor quality ones and this led to many of the 140's having good oc's and unlockings. Glad ur pumped about seein this I was just as blown away as you. Set it up at first for like 3.6 unlocked and it runs fine I'm like holy crap no way!
-
Well this is about all i got. I'm pretty amazed though at the performance you get from $35 with the right motherboard. I never thought i could take a 2.7 ghz single core and run it at 3.8 as a dual core pretty nuts! I might be able to get a little more but i don't have time since ups will be here within the hour and this little guy will get relegated to being in an itx build runnin at stock for the rest of its days. I'd definatel reccommend this chip to budget builders since it overclocks so well and most people seem to have success with core unlocking. I'm gonna try playing some waw with it. gotta love zombie mods

I believe this is a sign of good things to come!

WELL...... in my opinion mse sucks! Upon recent upgrade to windows 7 i went with mse insteado of avg and within a month i had antivir anti virus saying i was infected( trojan trying to get you to pay for fake antivirus) I'm going tight back to avg

haha yeah its a dual core with one core shut down. OCCT finished successful! Now i need to learn how to overclock via the fsb and whatnot. (I got lazy with black edition procs)

i'm far from a good overclocker i just moved the multiplier and voltage for the 9950. With ACC enabled 3.2 was all i could get and be stable. Its funny cause any more and it will crash in 5 min. yet at 3.2 its stable all day. I could maybe get a little more with better cooling but man that sucker throws heat! I just started playing with the sempron so well see right now its half way through occt unlocked at stock voltage running fine. If it passes then lll need to start learning how to bump the fsb
. Today's my only day to play with it though since the case comes in for the other build tonight and i need to get it assembled since im leaving sunday for the beach. Lol i love puttin together rigs.

sigh..... unfortunately no its a mini itx build with a very low budget. it was only 50 dollars for the proccessor and motherboard off of newegg. I figured it would be fun just to see if it would unlock since my board is 790fx with the sb750 southbridge. I'm just glad asus supports unlocking.
-
Hey guys, well i ordered a budget build for my father and the case is coming tonight. Until then however i had everything else including a sempron 140. I got curious and yanked out my phenom 9950 from my main rig and dropped in this little guy. Bios update here, new cpuid there, and a some restarts and this is what i got! I'm going to try stress testing right now to see if its stable.

alright guys thanks for the advice. That will be a lot easier then taking my full tower over. and Dr. Bowtie your right i bought a new hdd to so i don't have to go through this PITA again as well as with all my other programs. Woulda thought reinstalling Vista over 3 times from my different pc's would have taught me that by now.
-
Hey guys, my latest Vista install took a dump on me again. So i switched to Windows 7. I live out in the countryside and so can only get wireless internet through verizon. I currently have a 15gb monthly cap and i usually go up into the 10-12gb range usually. I reinstalled the orange box and realized it has over 5 gb in updates!!! Is there any way to update it from another location and bring the update back to my house. At this rate i'm going to have to take the entire rig over to my fathers business to let it update everything lol
Help appreciated,

yeah it looks like a reference to me and like he said, if its red its reference

im still rockin my phenom 9950. I keep drooling over the new 6 core phenoms but then i remember that this chip still suits all my needs. Maybe if i get some extra money working this summer
-
black is nice but unless you plan on washing it every day its not so hot. Also like somoene said green is easier to see and when your on a bottle rocket thats a +

The zombie apocalypse vehicle! lol 1986 Chevy m1008 army truck. 3speed auto. 6.2 Diesel, 14 bolt rear and dana 60 in the front. It's slow but built to pull just about anything. Also since its old its my project vehicle so i'm always working on it. :thumbs-up:

oh if you want i believe certain yard marking paints are uv reactive. You can get those at any hardware store. I sprayed that ide cable there orange and its slightly reactive. Some paints are really bright though i heard

I like uv cathodes. When i put together a secondary rig i bought 2 cathodes put em in and then sleeved the psu. They looked pretty good and i happened to have these neon zipties which what do you know were uv reactive to. To top it off then my 4670 I had bought was uv reactive too. For being a real cheap rig I think it looks great.
I switched out the stock cooler with a zalman which had a blue led which added a little more light, also did a lot more cable management
question on work unit size

Hey guys, its been a while since I last folded but with winter coming on I don't see a reason why not to run my rigs to keep warm and fold at the same time. I hooked up the gpu client and the smp client to a rig with an e6300 and a radeon 4670. I know these are far from high point producers but man do the seem slow. Last time I did folding it seemed to complete a gpu work unit in under a day. Now its been running overnight and I am only at 2100/10000. The gpu is registering high usage. Have the work units just become much larger as of late?
