  1. thanks everybody for the replies. well i know the intel would probably be a great overclocker but i haven't done an intel build yet and since its going to a friend i don't want to overclock it a lot. After i build an intel comp i'll maybe do it for another persons build but since its not going to be overclocked a lot and i've set up amd builds before i think ill stick with the athlon. I know the case probably comes with a not so hot raidmax psu. but i think it will work since this is far from an enthusiast build. and i just realized shipping is going to be way lower and i was able to squeeze an extra $50 out of him so i'm throwin a nice gpu now! :) okay now i'm not sure on what gpu a higher end but older 3870 or a newer but more budget 4670....... Which one will be better for gaming, also if there are any other gpu ideas in that price range let me know!

  2. well i have a friend who is thinking of getting a new computer i told i could build him one and he says his budget is 500. here's what i got so far. He's just an average user but like to play world of war craft. I know i'm going with a pretty weak gpu set up but last time i checked he was using a pretty small monitor and i don't think world of war craft is real intensive.

cpu- athlon dual core kuma black edition 2.7ghz (if it gets slow later on i'll over clock it a bit for him)

mb- asus m3a78-em micro atx board

    ram- gskill 4g @ 800mhz

gpu- asus radeon 3450 (hybrid crossfire so it wont suck to bad)

    hd- seagate 250g

case and psu- raidmax scorpio and 420w psu

    cd/dvd writer lg

    any advice appreciated :)

  3. YEAH I'VE HEARD THAT IT IS VERY GOOD AT OVERCLOCKING. I LOVE ASUS BOARDS MY M3A79T-DELUXE GETS MY CRAPPY REGULAR PHENOM 9950 TO 3.2 WHICH IS GREAT FOR THAT PROC.... SO YEAH I'D GO WITH THAT BOARD IT HAS SOME GREAT REVIEWS AND LIKE SLICK SAID. NUCLEAR SAID HE GOT 4GHZ ON AIR WITH IT

  4. well i was thinking of buying some hard drives of newegg the other day and then i started wondering how much faster my computer would load things with dual hard drives in raid 0. i have a western digital cavier blue 500g............ will it speed up my boot times and games quite a bit ? just wonderin if its worth the investment. i'll buy another one if my games load a bit faster and large programs also.

  5. i dont know how to convince you of amd......... but i have the foxconn a7gm-s micro atx board and so far its been working great and with a 60-70 dollar price range it was cheap. I think it was also listed as a good board in the htpc guide here at occ. I dropped in a athlon dual core at 3.1 and its been running fine so far.. it has one pci slot for a gpu and i think the ram's a good distance away.

  6. well their could be a couple things........... what cpu did u have before. the phenom probably generates a bit more heat. also i'm not sure this is possible but maybe your old cpu never could feed your gpu like your new one does now if you know what i mean. I would look so see if the processor is blowing any heat towards the gpu. if so try to fix that, if not you could get some more fans to improve airflow. or you could get an aftermarket heatsink for your gpu............. i don't think that the graphics card is bad

  7. avoid the Xclio case. It is terrible. I had one and it just fell apart. The fans stoped working, the window cracked and the whole thing was very poorly built. For that money antec 900 or 902 is only a little bit more, but worth the extra money
    <_<

I HAVE THAT CASE AND I LOVE IT.......... IT LOOKS GREAT AND HAS DECENT COOLING AND OVERALL I JUST LOVE IT................ MAKES ME ENJOY LOOKING AT MY COMPUTER EVEN MORE :thumbs-up:

  8. WELL.................................. I'M SITTIN AT MY COMPUTER ON OCC AND MEANWHILE MY DRYER IS RUNNING AND I HEAR THIS BANGING SOUND......................... YEAH U GUESSED IT............. MY SHUFFLE WAS ACCIDENTALLY IN A PANTS POCKET AND WENT THROUGH THE WASHER AND A GOOD TIME IN THE DRYER.......... I START TO FREAK THEN GO AND TURN IT ON AND IT STILL WORKS............ SOMEHOW. i'M NOT AN APPLE FAN but i had won this one at one of those crane machines and after taking it home started to use it a lot. i can't believe it still works.............. its the only thing to survive my washer and dryer since my pokemon ruby for the gameboy advance lol............ p.s i'll keep you guys posted to see how the battery held up ... i'm not sure it's unscathed though because even though its off right now the light is flashing on and off............. anyone know what it means?

  9. haha i have a funny trick............... i had a netgear wireless g usb. where i currently live i can only get satellite internet but my neighbor who lives a little over a half mile away from me can get dsl for some stupid reason. well i did some research and came up with a home made idea that i can't believe works. i went to walmart grabbed a good size metal strainer. cut a whole through the back of it and fed the adapter through then i put a balloon over it to waterproof it and then used two gatorade caps with holes in them and a ziptie to keep the adapter straight. stuck it out my window and wallaw got the web off his router from over a half mile away. so u could simply put like a small parabolic shaped metal dish over the antenna and you'd get great signal. then you wouldn't have to get expensive coaxial cable

  10. Thanks for all the replies............ i didn't think this would work but i used the reinstall off an old dell i had and it validated it when i installed it on the laptop now its new and clean and runs soooooooooooooooo much faster. thanks for all the help though anyway.

p.s i'm a windows guy but i just started using ubuntu for the fun of it so i set it as my icon....

  11. do you have any other computers...... i think u could plug it into a another computer and acess the drive and pull the information off of it then put it back in the original comp and then do a clean install

  12. well i've really been itchin for a media server pc on the network but i don't like leavin my main computer on all the time. well recently i was given an old sony vaios.... or however you spell it....... it has a p4 and 512 ram.... however it seems to be very slow for i think it has a lot of junk on it but it doesn't seem to have many programs on it.... well i'd just do a fresh intall but i was not given the reinstall disk with the laptop and its not worth 100 bucks for a copy of microsoft xp. so im kinda a little stuck here. should i just dig through xp tryin to get every little boost i can by disabling junk programs... or should i just wipe the drive and throw on an edition of ubuntu. I like xp but i dont know how to speed it up. i know the laptop could also use some more ram but im just not sure how else you get it to run better. any suggestions or how to really clean it up back to fresh would be great. thanks to anyone with suggestions. p.s if i get it workin all use the hd enclosure i won from occ for more storage... thanks occ

  13. Just so you know, I have 64 bit Vista and there is only one problem I have with it, every once in a while it changes my folder view settings for no reason. Other than that, its been 100% problem free, which I guess makes it 99.9% problem free in total :P

I'd choose B+D. Get a new board and new graphics, RMA the old board and eBay the replacement along with the 8800's. Then get something new, like a GTX 260 or HD 4870, and a cheaper board with an intel chipset so you can OC the processor. In the end it shouldnt cost you much, you might even get lucky and make some money, and the performance gains will be fantastic. You can even get 64b Vista while you're at it :D

. +1. A gtx 260 or 4870 would work well and with a good board that q6600 can oc a good bit. P.s I switched to 64bit vista and love it...... Hope this helps ya a lil
