Hyper Threaded Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 After a few years of loyal service, my X-560 is developing some nasty fan issues. Either the fan won't spin when it should or it makes awful noises, when it does. While this unit is still under warranty, I have no back-up at all and cant have this PC out of service. Once the warranty does expire (about a year) I want to take the fan out and see if it can be lubed. I doubt it can, having previous experience with these San Ace fans. I already have a new Seasonic X-750 on the way. Strangely, this is a bit cheaper than the 660w and 650w models. I'm ready to get back folding, since I can't let this PSU get hot enough to need the fan.
IVIYTH0S Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 How much more warranty does it have left? Why not send it out when you get the new one?
Hyper Threaded Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 About one year is left on the warranty. However, I'm not sure if the fan simply being noisy is considered a failure.
SpikeSoprano Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 If it is loud it is rma' able, (just made that word up). The fan is probably replaceable so they might just send you a new fan and you could install it yourself.

No way they would let you dig around inside a PSU.
IVIYTH0S Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 No hurt contacting them for you could get a unit with less or no miles returned to you, greatly extending it's service life!
ccokeman Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Open it up and replace the fan!
SpikeSoprano Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Open it up and replace the fan!I agree , simplest, cheapest solution !

Yeah but he could end up getting a replacement unit if they're lazy with all new internals or at least newer internals which'd greatly improve the lifetime over the one he has now. Ya know? Hyper Threaded Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I got my new X750 in today. I'll worry about the old one later. This unit is actually quite nice, it even has stealth cables.
dr_bowtie Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 you could always just oil the fan and use it as a back up. I've oiled many fans....
Hyper Threaded Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I wanted a quick solution. As it stands, I can't really have any downtime with this PC, at all. My plan is to either RMA or attempt to repair the fan myself, after a while.
