Wesstron Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Can anyone explain to me why we have to pay twice the price of what's offered to US customers? F.F.S. we are a spitting distance from each other and all the crap about Canada being a smaller market just doesn't make any bloody sense to me. Hell Amazon, you are not sending the items to Mordor! Yeah I'm pissed lol, Here is what usually happens: Looking for something -> US Price -> go to Canadian site .
rivalary Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 It's probably actually Canada that's mostly the problem. Our government seems to like to screw us. Duty, etc, kills the prices, then some companies inflate their prices because everything else is generally more expensive. I wish I knew more about it, though it wouldn't change the fact that we get screwed on everything we buy.

bp9801 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 It'd probably be cheaper to have someone in the States buy the item and then ship it to you guys.
kennethk Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Amazon has gone down shit, they use to be tax free but now governments are making them charge taxes as well. I only use them for their prime services. May sound cheesy but I always make a new account and for prime trials. Screw paying $75 a year for free two day shipping. Guest_Jim_* Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 To be fair to Amazon though, they are not the seller of the case on the Canadian page ("grabethesale" is) so they are also not in control of the price.

Taxes on Amazon, as it is with any online retailer, is dependent on what state you live in. If your state has a shipping center for the particular website you're buying from, you'll have to pay taxes. Also, if your state has a sales tax, then you'll have to pay that on an online order, too, again regardless of the site (called a use tax). Oh, and btw, Amazon was actually one of the supporters of the bill for taxes on online goods. As was Target and even small businesses, since it can help to level the playing field between online and physical-only stores. Last year if my memories right it was tax free, such as eBay is but then again eBay doesn't really have a physical company it's just transactions between you and that seller. In all honesty I've had nothing but good buys from eBay. 80% of the time bad sales are the buyers fault for not doing more research and asking about refund policies. bp9801 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 There's still no taxes on Amazon or any other online retailer unless you live in a state with a physical location (shipping center and/or brick-and-mortar store) or your state has the use tax (like Florida). Amazon even has a clear list of the states that get charged a sales tax if the item is bought directly from Amazon or one of its subsidiaries. Arizona California Georgia Kansas Kentucky New Jersey New York North Dakota Pennsylvania Texas Virginia Washington Now, the particular bill that is going to put sales tax on pretty much every online order could go into effect as early as October 1. There were some reports of it starting on September 1, however that doesn't seem to be the case as the last several items I've bought on Amazon didn't include a tax. Ebay is one of the companies fighting the bill, because it could impact any of its sellers that do more than $1 million a year in out-of-state business. It was wanting to put in a stipulation so companies under 50 employees and that do less than $10 million a year should be exempt, just I don't think that was ever successfully added. Regardless, we should all find out next week what the basic principles of the bill are going to be, just without any specific guidelines. But really, some people are already paying a sales tax on online purchases so they're use to that. Buying pretty much anything local in your state (most states, anyway) already subject you to a sales tax. So this is just to bring further parity to the field and help keep small businesses running, since if everything has a sales tax it'd be easier to buy local and have the item immediately rather than buy online and wait a few days.
