I stand corrected on the 2D/3D issue, however, if this is the only card he has, and he doesn't have the money for a new one, I would argue that caution is advised. He may reach a 25% overclock, but it's better to start out slow than jump right up to 25% OC...

It sounds like you might have the refresh rate for the different graphics modes set higher than your monitor can handle. If it's too high, the monitor won't be able to display anything...

The first thing that comes to mind is that you should check your heatsink and fan on your CPU... Make sure the heatsink is attached properly, and the fan is spinning.

If you would rather overclock the card you have rather than buying another, newer card, first try a 10% overclock. That would mean a core of 275 and 365 for the memory. If all is stable, keep bumping it up slowly, no more than 5Mhz at a time until you start to see artifacts in games or in 3DMark, etc., then back off 5 from that setting. Don't expect too much though, because that card is fairly dated now... Oh, and you really only need to OC the 3D side of your video. You can leave 2D set to defaults that way your card is only pushed hard when you are gaming.

Another thing to try is bumping your core voltage to the CPU. Just do it in the smallest increments possible until your system is stable.

I still don't understand. I want to make a Folding Banner... I give up...

Ummm... this is just a guess, but I'd have to say "91 processes at STARTUP????" LOL Geez!!!! I only have about 50 processes running at startup, and I have a pretty loaded down system...

Mine says p936. I'm also using the new software. Not loading it as a service or command line. I really don't know, but could that be the difference, or is it just the size of the workunit being worked on maybe??

Some say after numerous reflashes, the abilty to be flashed reliably declines, but each flash first erases what's on the chip, then writes the new BIOS file. That's why it's so bad if a flash fails.

I'm showing the same numbers on my system. I'd say that's pretty much the norm.

Well, if you're machine isn't overclocked this wouldn't apply, but if it is, you may need to bump the voltage up a notch. Also, what do your CPU temps look like? I actually run my Virtual Memory Swap File on another drive entirely. I don't think that's the problem. It could be the RAM... can you try your current setup with a different stick or sticks of RAM? Maybe you could borrow some from a friend or something. Then you could eliminate RAM from the possibilities if that doesn't correct the problem...

Hey! I found this over at Tom's http://www.tomshardware.com/game/20030405/index.html. The info is slightly dated, but might give you some good info to work with nevertheless. BTW, I'm in agreement with Instag0 -- I'd get a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS/Gamer -- but I'd invest in some nice speakers from Klipsch or Logitech too.

Asus -- I don't disagree that usually Western Digital drives are troublefree. However, until only recently I, like you, was Western Digital for life! Then I bought a Seagate Barracuda and that changed my mind. It was on sale, so I decided to take a chance. I have a WD800JB 8 meg. buffer and an ST380013A 8 meg. buffer. Both are 80 gig drives, and I was surprised when running Sisoft Sandra how much faster the Seagate is. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but if you like, I'll run the tests again and post the results...

Not that it will likely solve the problem, though it might, but have you upgraded your firmware? I've used Lite-On drives for a couple of years now, and I like 'em. Anyway, if nothing else that anyone has posted here works, I'd RMA it. BTW, neb -- can you provide documentation confirming your claim that Lite-On makes Sony drives? Lite-On is partners with JVC, and I find it hard to believe that they would make drives for their competitor...
