Dirk Dastardly Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I just bought a new PC, I hope I made the right choices. I wanted a semi-future proof computer, with overall a great performance for the price. I am not one for full graphical capability (1600x1200 res, 4xAA, 16AF, etc), I like a nice 1024x768, medium-high settings, and a smooth FPS. I'm also planning on overclocking (just a 200MHz increase is what I have in mind). By the way, this is my first build. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I should go about installing things (not hardware, but what order for software, Windows updates, etc)? Any other information for a first timer would be appreciated as well! Angry_Games Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 instead of just providing links you should also provide a slight description so we dont have to click 19 links to find out what you buy example: DFI NF4 Ultra-D 3200+ Venice 939 cpu OCZ PC4000 2x1024 HIS X800XL PCI-E etc
Dirk Dastardly Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Alright, I just edited my post with the names of the components.
Minsc Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 You might have trouble getting the 2gb to work... consider 1gb if you feel it'll be enough. I only vaguely recall people having problems getting 2gb to be stable in dual channel mode. The OCZ stuff seems like the right choice though, so if it's possible, those will be the chips to use. But you might end up with 2GB with dual channel disabled.
evogre3n Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 If you can stress your budget, go for the 6800GT instead. Looks sweet
Dirk Dastardly Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I just read in another thread of mine I may have hard time running Dual Channel since I just got 2x1024MB (2GB) of memory. The memory I am getting is HERE, and I will be using it in a LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR.
CrucialLabs Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I have not had a problem running 2 1GB module in dual channel. You should be fine.
Angry_Games Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 you wont have any trouble getting 2GB to work on a Venice cpu. Everything looks good...I agree with the poster above that if you can afford it, go for an X800 or a 6800GT...but if not, 6600GT's are not bad at all
Guest gandalf Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 For 20 extra bucks you could go for 2 80gb hitachi's in raid 0: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ctCode=100590-
