Tin Canary Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 im thinking i may want to try the 6/19 official w/ diamond flash utility up at the DFI webpage. is diamond flash risky? are there any advantages over flashing it by hand through a command prompt? and last, who has used diamond flash and what are your experiences? robo989 Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 You've got the wrong end of the stick mate, DiamondFlash is simply the image format. Basically, you download the DiamondFlash "file" Insert a floppy disk run the diamondflash image everything inside the image will be extracted onto the floppy disk - all it is is a convenient way of flashing the bios. Restart the computer with the floppy disk in (make sure boot from floppy is selected in bios and load optimised defaults before flashing) it will flash the bios automatically with no user input needed. Its not a utility just think of it as a self extracting zip archive if you like (its bit more than that but not much)
uwackme Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Wonder if any of our software wizards could HACK Abit's FlashMenu program to work on the DFI boards? I've used it to flash HUNDREDS of times on ABit NF7-S and never once had an issue. But it dont like the DFI hardware....I tried ;-) It's just the low level hardware interface....some slight differences between ABit and DFI's implementation fo the bios flash hardware on the NForce2. Would be a hell of a coup to pull it off.
m0ng0d Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I used diamond flash... and it works like robo989 said... and for me it worked quite well as I had no issue at all (the one and only time I used it was to flash my then "new and shiny" LPB to official 619)

Angry_Games Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 the diamond flash is just an image to create a bootable floppy with the batch command and the bin bios file and all the switches etc. Does it all for ya. Works great from the ones that I have flashed with it. Just make sure the correct bin is in the image after making the floppy lol. There is nothing magic about Diamond flash. It is simply a Winimage Self Extractor that makes a bootable floppy with the required files for you. When you boot to the floppy the actual flash is still done with Awdflash V8.36e with the following and somewhat incomplete) command line of " a:awdflash N2I0806.BIN /sn/py/cc " in an Autoexec.bat file. robo989 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Ahhhhh, I dunno. Personally I think its very user friendly as long as you read the manual and fully and actually understand things as opposed to being a "textbook" kiddie as so many people are thses days (not only in computers mind u). On the otherhand if you don't know what your doing then its very easy to mess up this board - but I'd stress that whenif you do mess it up the person will only have themself to blame. Performance on this board is very good and with high performance there are some risksdrawbacks I suppose. Its been better than my Asus A7n8xECS K7s5a tho. Folks these days are getting sloppy and computers are getting far to easy to fiddle about with - (people are forgetting that they've only become easier to fiddle about with, as a result numerous retards who in the past, would never have touched the "bios" are now doing so with ignorance)
