Newegg and building of my rig.

I Heart PC's

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys

I'm have a bit of a dilemma, I have about two grand waiting to be spend on a custom machine. My first choice was to build a machine from a sites like Cyberpower etc etc and noticed it would be much cheaper to but my own supplies.I rather spend the money now on a real powerful machine now then just building a "decent" rig and saving the rest of the cash for future upgrades, and wont mind spending the whole budget.

Here is a list of the things i put together on Newegg of what im looking for.

Vista Home Premium

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz or E8400

Cool Master Stacker 830 Evolution RC-830--- Comes with 1000W PSU by CM

ASUS Striker II Formula LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i MOBO

ASUS 20X DVD

Unless you want SLI in the near future, I'd go with an Intel-chipset motherboard because nVidia-chipset motherboard don't overclock as easily...

and I wouldn't use Thermaltake cooling on the CPU... nor GPU...

I'd assemble a PC for a friend for a few beers and a pizza... if it was for someone I didn't know, then I'd charge money based on the estimated build time and compensation for my time... so maybe the cost of TWO pizzas... and some more beers

I will second hardnrg's points and say unless you want SLi then go with an Intel based board.

How much is that CM case with the 1000W PSU? If it's quite a bit (and 1000W is way overkill), then you could save some money there by buying case and PSU separately.

You probably have options with the RAM as well, but I'll let someone else chime in on that.

Oh, and Accelero S1 for the 8800GT and a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme for the CPU. :)

Thanks for the input so far guys!

I decided to switch over to the ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X38 since i figured i wont be using SLI. As for the case, Im in love with it so i will be thinking it over. And for the GPU AND CPU cooling i would switch to what you guys recommend but it seems i have to look elsewhere for the Accelero and the Thermalright since NewEgg is out of stock
