cchalogamer Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I would personally NOT go with thoes HDDs, I have two of them in my main rig atm and absolutely hate them. They randomly click, one has already died and been RMAed, one gets insanely hot, performance is NOT like my 250GB version at all. Both of my current drives are showing signs of failure and I havent even owned them for 6 months. (and again one of them has even been out for RMA and replaced) On top of all this I WANT to run them in RAID 0, but I have to toos that idea away due to the massive errors and corruption they give. Idk if RAID was in the plans or not, but that's just an additional heads up. Funny thing is one of my old WD KS series 250GB drives was faster than these in RAID 0 at EVERYTHING, and my Seagate 250 of the same series is faster than the single WD. Take these out of RAID and they are STILL worse than any other modern HDD that I've used. I persoanlyl havent figured out a means to scrap the damn thigns and get some real drives back in this system without loosing too much money. My server needs a decent sized RAID 1 array, but hell I dont think im comfortable even with two of these keeping my important data. Most here that ahve read my HDD posts in the past have read me praising WD and Seagate about their drives, now i find seagate selling what feels like the crap leftovers from their Maxtor buying with service to match. ($20 for a crossshipping RMA...come on) I really dont want tp spend all 5 years of my seagate warranty shipping these damn things and their replacements back to them. But you guys are right, I'm going to go back and use an EVGA board. As far as the harddrives, I was just planning on using one for the OS and games, and the second as a backup/documents harddrive. I am running 2x250GB in my current rig, and just thought the price for the 320's would make them worthwhile. I'll check into it more. Thanks for the advice. I seriously hope not. A few bucks more will get you the Ultra-120 Extreme and a noticeably cooler CPU. RAM: For the money you're paying, there are much better options. Crucial Ballistix for $50 after rebate, for example. The Crucial uses D9 chips while that crappy G.Skill uses crappy ProMOS chips. Video Card: You do realize that an overclocked 8800GT will beat a GTX, right? The GT is also single slot, draws much less power, and only needs a single PCI-E connector. And did I mention that they're half the price? HDD: You can go from 320 to 500 for $15 more. Just in case math isn't your thing, that's a 56% increase in capacity. Sound Card: X-Fi = good, Fatality = OVERPRICED CRAP! Buy directly from Creative. I got an X-Fi XtremeMusic for $50 + shipping. It came with a factory warranty and everything. Why don't you read the hundreds, or likely thousands, of reviews online (including one here on OCC) instead of listening to a couple people that are pissed off at a particular brand because they bought a bad product.
