Newport Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I just bought a Canon S80 a few weeks back and i have been taking some very detailed pics and i have came across a problem. Even after saving them as .jpeg, the least detailed pictures are several MB in size and its keeping me from sending these pics over e-mail. What program, besides PS, winrar, or winzip, do you use to make the file size smaller? Is there another way i can save these to save space? Verran Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Jpeg is already a compressed file format. Zipping a jpeg won't get you anywhere because it's already compressed to start with. It's like zipping an MP3. AFAIK, there's not much more you can do to a Jpeg file.

Bleeble Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 You may have decrease the quality, but I bet the resolution is still huge. sdy284 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 just shrink the physical size down in MS paint (using sketch/skew & use like 60% for both horizontal & vertical) then save as & jpeg & your pic should be plenty small
Bleeble Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 (edited) Yeah, that would work too. But whenever I use Paint with JPEGs it really screws up the colors. So just watch out for that. Edited November 3, 2006 by Bleeble

hardnrg Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 why are you sending them via email? if it's just to show someone, then i usually resize the pics so they are about 900 pixels high or less so the person doesn't have to scroll or view it resized... if it's for PRINTING, then you should "send" the pic at full resolution and quality via an intermediate file hosting place like fileden.com (50MB per file limit) or ohshare.com (80MB per file limit) and just send the corresponding download url via email
